I have a 98 ranger , 4.0 motor...My problem is when i try to start it first thing in the morning, it stumbles , acts like it is missing and doesnt wanna run...I can shut it off, restart and everything seems to be ok then. I was wondering if it was a fuel problem, the filter is new. THe truck has 160,000 miles
Did this problem come about suddenly, after some event, or slowly over time????
Do you have a CEL (Check Engine Light) on???? If so have he computer scanned for trouble codes & post all the code numbers found.
Have you checked the fuel pressure on cold start up's?????
Right now I'm sorta leaning towards a fuel delivery problem guess, maybe a pesky fuel pump power relay with internal electrical contact problms, or maybe a tuckered out out fuel pump.
