98 Explorer starting problem

98 Explorer starting problem

I have a 98 Explorer that has just started to have intermittent starting problems. It cranks as normal but doesn't always start and then will operate normally for days. When it doesn't start it has a weak spark and after repeated attempts it will eventually start and may not do this again for days . this is something new for this vehicle, could this be a switch or module/coils problem?

starting probs

I also have a 98 ford explorer that actually cranks for awhile before starting, and when it does, it idles very high until I pull away, then seems fine. I have had a fuel flush, fuel filter change, and tune up, so I don't know either. How many miles do you have on yours? Mine is 162,000.

this one will start when boosted even thought the battery is not dead and this happens intermittently, your's sounds like a faulty IAC ( idle air control).We have replaced the ignition switch, starter, cables, coil pack etc.

How often do you need to change IAC? I changed it about 2 years ago because it kept dying out.

Same Prob

I Got An '94' Explore Xlt 4x4 That Just Started These Symtoms Too! I Checked All Componets And I Got A Anit-thief Chip On The Bottom Of My Dash That I Recently Presure Washed My Interior Carpet And Some Water On It, Got On Dash Ect... Caused Some Funky Stuff But Let It Sit For A Week And Its Dried Out But Since Then I Go To Store Or Anywhere When Ready To Leave It Will Crank But Wontstart= I Pulll Dash Out And Checked All Connectors = Checked Out Fine So Im Woundering If Anyone Know How I Can Remove The Anti-thief Device, Cause It Was The Most Exposed Elec. That Got Wet That Day And Might Be The Prob But Idk 4 Sure! Just Seems Funny Its Not A Constant Thing Till U Got Somewhere To Be!
