So i pulled my oil filler cap off today while the truck was running and there was some smoke coming out of it. Now i remember reading that this could be blow bye but i also remember reading that this might be normal. Can someone explain this and tell me what i should look for to make sure nothing is wrong with the engine. Thanks
You could install a CC pressure gauge like I did, and then monitor your CC pressure under various load conditions. The max seen by both myself (while towing) and by Guzzle who also made some towing measurements is about 1.6" H2O. This # is for trucks with a CCV mod, you'll see a slight vacuum under load with a stock CCV. Ford has a test and a spec for blow by that both I and Alan Miller have posted, but the test requires a special oil cap and a gauge. A quick experiment is to remove the oil filler cap and zip tie a X4 folded white tee shirt over the filler tube and go for a drive, then post the pic and I'll compare it to my similar test.
