ok 190K on the truck....runs fine...normal performance. Just over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed that when starting it after sitting all night, (about 30 - 40 degree weather, plugged in or not), I get a little white smoke until I drive it about 1 minute...then no more smoke unless I get on it. Normal stuff .....Iis there something I need to start checking?
I have read many posts about a tube that can get clogged with old soot that should be cleaned, but I can't remember what or where it is.....
Would this cause my problem or should I be looking elsewhere?

Oh yea...starts fine and runs fine other than I have started noticing the white smoke during warm up. Wasn't doing that last month....just started over the last couple of weeks. ANd mind you now, it is a billowing cloud of smoke...just a little while idling during warmup, but goes away if I rev the engine and returns at idle...until I actually drive it down the road then it just goes away about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Is it billowing or just a little? Are you sure you glow plugs are doing their thing? Does it do it after the engine warms?
Oopppssss Typo!! it is NOT a billowing white cloud of smoke. And once the engine is warmed up...no smoke....I can go to the store, go in and come back out...no smoke... Only during warm ups when the engine has been sitting long enough to completely cool down....It hasn't gotten that warm yet so I don't know if it does it when the outside temps are over 50.
It really sounds as if you GPs aren't doing their thing. Mine acted like that and it wound up being weak batteries. I thought is was starting good until I put new ones in and seen how much differance that made.
Hmmmm interesting....yesterday morning, it was 29 outside, and this morning 47...No smoke...either day. Ugh!! Starting to be like my ex-wife....never could tell if she was in a good mood or not!
Check and see what the dew point was on the days that you got the white smoke. Could be that there was enough humidity to make the cloud. Once you get going your exhaust in warm enough to keep it from smoking.
BillyBob, Mine was doing something similar. It was a whiteish/blueish smoke at startup. I found that my intake tube had a leak in it and the hot side top intercooler boot had a gash in it (repaired temporarily with duct tape-go Red Green!) When I replaced both of those my smoke went away. Coincidence? I do not know for sure but it is not smoking anymore. Just a thought. Maybe you will want to do a boost leak test.
Just a dumb thought here, but if you want to see if your GPR is working, turn on your headlights when you first start your truck, after about 60 sec's, the headlights will get brighter, the amp draw from the gprs actually dim the lights. I learned this after I put in my GPR LED, the headlights would get brighter when the GPR LED turned off..Yes, the the lights always got brighter after 60 + seconds, but didnt put 2 and 2 together until after the GPR LED.
