I am in a dilema. What would my best choice be between brand new 2007 F250 Diesel and F250 V10?
Because of rebate on 2007 I can get either truck for about the same money, so thats not the decision maker.
I pull a 8000 lb 5th wheel so thats not a problem with either. What is best?
I mean if you pull your trailer a lot and for long distances. I would get a diesel. but if your gonna tow it a couples times a year just stick with the v10. The diesels are nice for towing. good mpg and stuff.
The choice would boil down to what the truck is being used for.
If you drive a lot of short trips, don't get a diesel. The gas engines are better suited for this type of driving. Also, a V-10 is easier to live with if you're in a very cold winter climate.
I don't always agree the PSD is better for towing than the V-10, they both have good and bad points.
Lastly, with the $4000 rebate and the 200,000 mile warranty on leftover 6.0s starting 7/1 (so we hear, anyway) a 2007 PSD is a very attractive purchase.
If you tow long distances then get the diesel. If you rarely tow get the gas. The oil changes and other maint. items are more expensive than a gas motor. But once you tow (on a highway) w/ a diesel, thats when you feel the difference between the two. Thats why I can never go back to gas. Don't wory about the cold weather starts.... that's old school diesel technology.
any way buy the diesel no matter what for the same price better mileage any where pulls way better than the v10 guzzler and the resale is far better than the v10 guzzler i had one and never again once you drive a diesel and a v10 guzzler you will know what im talking about no comparison
I've got a V10 and I love it. Like someone else said, go drive both and decide for yourself. If they are indeed offering a 200,000 mile warranty, the smoker would be hard to turn down for the same money.
But don't let anyone make this decsion for you. Some of these diesel guys are high on soot and they talk crazy stuff!!! I heard something the other day on here about a manhood size requirement just to able to buy a diesel.....I don't know.....
Just kidding ladies, don't get your panties in a bunch.

A very hard decision when the price is the same upfront
Like everyone else said, it comes down to a small set of questions:
1) Do you tow heavy, let's say more than 50% of the time? (advantage: diesel)
2) Do you do lots of short trips? (advantage: gas)
3) Do you live in a cold climate? (advantage although slim: gas)
4) Do you run the truck in soft terrain in 4x4? (advantage: gas, because it's lighter in the front) (not much of a concern overall, really, but diesels are known for burying their front-ends)
And a bunch of things I already forgot as I was typing the above.
If you can cover the extra maintenance costs (oil and filters), I see no logical reason to not get the diesel. And those costs are offset by the better MPGs.

Now that the purely technical part is done, we can go on to asthetics:
Noise.
Odor.
Practicality:
Downtime when something goes wrong - even though a warranty covers your costs, you're down a truck while it's being fixed. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but it is something to think about.

That's it for me... I keep promising myself not to get in the middle of these things, but there I go again
