I went from diesel to gas. Both have their strong points.
I will get another diesel someday but I am in no hurry to get rid of my V10. If I found a screaming deal on a newer 3 valve V10 truck with 4 real doors I would probably buy it.
But the one thing I do love about the V10 is maintenance, or the lack of time doing it.
A $20 oil change and its ready for another trip. I have had zero downtime due to any motor problems.
And truthfully, for me towing twice a year with 10 000lbs and maybe 5-8 trips with the travel trailer the extra cost of the diesel doesn't make economical sense.
But I still want that elusive 2003 7.3 that I have had an eye out for.

The V10 is a strong engine, but if they are the same price, get the diesel. The diesel, as you know, usually commands a premium. Your fuel mileage will be better and your cost per gallon lower. Finally your resale will be a good deal higher with equal mileage. JM2c

I was really looking for a diesel then started doing my research on maintainability then bought a V10 for my short trip running around and occasional camper towing in the icy Northeast.
7 quarts of oil vs 14
A $4-5.00 oill filter vs a $25 (Motorcraft)
A $10 (every 25,000 miles) fuel filter vs a $75(every oil change)
A $12 air filter vs a $60
The current price of fuel in upstate NY - diesel and gas are ~comparable @3/gal
Fuel mileage goes to diesel by a few mpg ~3-4
Premium engine price on a new truck: V10 ~$500, diesel, ~$5000
Trade-in difference, on a 6.0PSD vs a 6.8V10 based on an '06 F250 is $4000+/-

The maintenance/warranty repair history on PSD diesel trucks is iffy at best.

What it boils down to is do you want to pay the up front premiums plus maintenance dollars on an engine that has a blotched history that may cost you a lot of dealer time versus an engine that has a pretty good history, is well suited for short trips and is reasonable to work on and maintain.

I'd love to have the diesel - I just can't justify spending my retirement time and dollars sitting at a dealers or waiting for maintenance or repairs

If they did do the 200K warranty I would consider it because I figure they have faith in them BUT if they take away the 4K rebate and then give the warranty I would think that they figure they will see the truck a couple of times. The average warranty claim on a PSD is $2100 (info not confirmed but from a diesel tech I know and seems about right from the thing posted on the board).

I think the warranty will be offered for sale, not as a freebie.

That would make it an easy choice to move to a 6.0 I was told $1200, but I hope you're correct!

Wow, no wonder you think diesels are expensive. Maintenance wise they are a little more expensive than a gasser, but somebody is gonna be making some money off of you if you ever get a diesel!

Don't forget the headlight fluid in the 6.0 has to be flushed every 6 months or 2534 door closings at $1389.23.

Go with the diesel. You know you want it.

Oh you can cut way down on the maint cost's on a 6.0 just have to be a smart shopper.
oil filter pep boys 2 for 7 dollars, I get mine at IH 12.50 a filter every 5k to 7.5k
oil Mystic semi syn oil from tsc ect.. 8 dollars and change for 2 gal
fuel filter IH 28.50 every 10-15k
air filter waiting to see not even close to be needing changed yet.

check around these a prices in my area may not be the same for you.. while the are more then V10 maint it's not as high as some think.

good luck with whatever you choose I am sure it will be the right truck for your needs.

It's the fluid that keeps your headlights from freezing.
