My brother swears by the cortizone/steroid shot. I've always had good luck with Reactine.
One other thing to try is Aerius. I think that is the Canadian Brand name, but I'm pretty sure something like that is availible in the US. It is NOT the same medication as Claritin or Reactine.
I am taking the plunge and seeing an allergist on Friday morning. I am in the same boat in regards to OTC meds no longer working.
I was in an accident last summer and was on a ventilator for 9 days. The docs blamed the fact that my lungs were banged up (not punctured) and compounded by the breathing difficulties caused by my allergies.
When I was released, I took everything in the cabinet to keep from sneezing. It kind of hurts to sneeze with broken ribs. I was loopy as a dizzy monkey, but I wasn't sneezing and that was all that mattered at the time.
I have read that the shots provide very mixed results with more people not getting satisfaction than those that do.
I'll see what the doc says. Hopefully a magic solution is available since I suffer from the sneezing/wheezing/filmy eyes during my bad seasons and it does make life about half miserable.
I get sneezing "fits", just can't stop. I started carrying eucalyptus oil in my tool box
(for other reasons) but I can put 2 or 3 drops on a hanky and breathe in a few nose-
fuls, and it kills the sneezing for an hour or more. Otherwise I sneeze until I bleed.
My latest experience with a cortisone shot (other than kenalog) was that it wasn't worth the other side effects. Was great to be allergy free for 3 weeks, but was no fun at all being psycho-b*tch from hell... Claritin stopped working for me when it was still in prescription. Loved Seldane when you could still get it.
Anyone else besides me seeing wide swings in quality from generic Benadryl?
Hmm. We have a honey bee center just 2 minutes down the road from where I live. We'll have to pop in there and try it.
It's definitely worth a try. My dad has been doing this for around 10-12 years now and he swears by it. I'm glad to hear other people here have had good results with it as well. If you have crops in your area that require pollination, I think you would see results.
For the local honey you should go to a local health food store or to a local faarmers' market. Still no luck? Ask around to find out who keeps bees in your area. Good luck, and you will notice the change in 2-3 weeks. One tablespoon in morning, one at bedtime, and honey on cereal, oatmeal, in hot tea, etc.
have you tried the benedril tabs sorry about misspelled word there mike has a bottle in the truck that he used for when he is at work and one at home for me and him I use it when the weather changes for me I sinius and allergies all year round every season it don't matter if it is winter, spring or what all 4 seasons are bad for me I end up with a headcold to sorethroat to you name it I have been this way since I was a half pint lol from what I can remember lol again sorry about misspelled words here. just tired that's all lol. but try the benidril tabs.
I just do one tablespoon in the morning, my uncle is a beekeeper, but the local healthfoods stores carry all kinds of local honey. Aside from the cost, I don't like relying on pills.
