Today goin to work, my thermostat bit the dust and stuck shut, and my 302 overheated. I immediatly killed it when I saw my temp gauge was extremely hot, and pushed it into the parking lot and let it set. After work, I refilled the rad, and she fired right up.
My question is what damage might I have caused that I might be able to fix before it gets any worse?
I'd agree with brisk_truck. Most overheating damage is done because people don't stop. I'm not sure what temp the gauge is set at when it pegs......but I know that they do go "hot" before any damage to the motor.
Worst case.....depending on the miles your water pump or a freeze plug or a hose might start leaking.....Put in a new T-stat and just run water in it for a few days to watch for any leaks.......then drain the rad and put in the 50-50.
