Sassy and i were sitting on the porch about an hr ago and storms came through. lightining hit the tree next to my porch. when sassy landed she was coverd by bark and leaves, my right ear is still ringing, the short hair on my arms and neck are still standing on end.
it's as close to death as i've been in yrs. this is the 1 pic i could take as my legs are still shaking, but it'll show that bark can fly 25'. i'll get more tomorrow
Glad to hear that you and Sassy are doing well after that close call. Hopefully your hearing will return to normal in the near future. I had those storms roll through here about 6 p.m. and fortunately they were not that bad.
How close was the tree to your porch? Did you feel anything right before it hit? What i mean is like did your hair stand up right before it hit or something?
Ive heard that that happens but dunno if its true or not.
Either way glad your safe, mustve been scary. Can we get a pic of the tree?
pics to come tomorrow I6. i just didn't have it in me to walk around it. no warning at all. it was just a flash and a noise i can't explain.
the tree is about 20' from the porch. it's 80' tall and blew stuff off it almost all the way down. it scared the hell out of me... more than when i got shot.
We had some pics at the Fire Department I worked at of a 6 ft. tall light pole that had an antique looking light on top of it. Lightening hit a tree about 15 ft. away and jumped to the light pole. It followed the light pole down through the wiring all the way back to the house and fuse box. The wire had been buried about 16 inches under ground. It opened a trench all the way to the house, about 50 ft. away, that looked like a ditch witch dug it out. It also blew the breaker box off the wall. Luckily that was where the damage ended. O yeah the antique looking light went into a million peices and there was a mark up the side of the tree. Awsome power.

Carl,
I'm glad to hear that you're o.k. (Other than having the snot scared out of ya.)
The wrath of Mother Nature is incredible! I'm glad that the lightning didn't jump over to the house and get you and Sassy.
Glad to here you are all right,I remember being at a friends house when a nasty storm came thru and lightning hit a telephone pole across the street, there were chunks of wood as big as 2x4s left on his second floor balcony.
That was a close call Lenny. I'm glad to here you and Sassy are OK.
Doesn't it seem like the weather is more unpredictable and severe these days? We saw inch sized hail a couple of weeks ago. Except for a couple of gray clouds, it was sunny and mild out. It was really weird.
I've seen trees that got hit by lightning turned into matchwood in the blink of an eye... it's just incredible to see. I'm glad that you and Sassy did'nt have the same happen to you, Carl. Trees grow everyday, man... remember that.
Now, having said that, on to the burning questions that are on everyone's mind:
Did it knock the mower off the planks, and how much cheap beer was spilled?
(My last references to both subjects, Carl... trust me!)
