I'm a utility engineer for the largest electric utility in MT... last week we had some storms roll through and one lightning strike hit some poles, traveled down the primary and burned 61 poles for about 3 miles. Needless to say, I got to spend 9 hours through the night helping to restore power.
I just say this now Carl.. Glad you & the lil porker are in one piece.
We had something like that happen once when I lived a few hours away from you. Lightning hit a 125' white pine in our back yard. It blew tiny bits of bark 100' away from the tree and tore a strip all the way down about 2 inches wide. The tree survived though.
Sometimes those summer storms are intense out that way. I remember a few of those from when I was a kid.
Carl, Glad you and Sassy are fine.. Electric storms can be a shocker..
In contemplating the vastness of the universe and the religious debates pertaining to if there a GOD or not... Are you sure this wasn't a warning shot from a higher being (GOD) ??? j/k
Carl, just read your post and seen your pictures glad to hear you and Sassy are doing good, If I were you though I would go and get the ear checked if you don't get the hearing back and still have the ringing on the ear. Tuesday I took the kids down swimming at my work and boy the wind picked up and the umbrella's came off the table almost knocked me in the pool it hit my youngest one in the face so now he has a small black and blue mark boy that was scary knowing the wind picked up that fast and blew the umbrella and not knowing right where all 3 kids are thank god know one was hurt though, little guy did not want to get out of the truck when we got home either he wanted to wait till it calmed down and I said well we might be here all night then and with that a clap of thunder came and out of his mouth was mommy get me the hell out of this truck and in the house with daddy and when we got in the house he headed to the bathroom and peed lol .
Where abouts in NY are you ??? I spent 2 days down in Deposit last year with my fire department and 5 others from my county helping out with pumping basements from the flooding of the Deleware caused by the Cannonsville Resevoir.
Im on CR19.. basically if you come into town and cross that first bridge over the river and make the right at the flashing yellow ( all the homes there were flooded) im up the road there about a mile and make a right up on the hill. None of the houses where i was was touched but we had some neighbors who lost almost everything. Im more n the outskirts of town.
That is my second home i am living in Brooklyn and taking care of my parents in addition to caring for an wife who is recovering from cancer. We go up to Deposit almost every other week
