MY 92 Explorer ran a little bit hot, so I stopped to see what the problem was.I saw the water pump was dripping,so I added water and started to back up and for some reason ,I didnt have reverse.I put it in drive ,everythings fine.So now I call and get a ride to get a water pump.I install the water pump and check reverse,it works perfect,but now I dont any forward gears.What Gives???
Check the level and condition of your tranny fluid. If low, top it off. If it's dark and smells burnt, get it flushed. The latter is not a good sign but you may get lucky.
Is it possible that the fluid was heated up in the radiator since there wasn't enough fluid circulating from the engine. Maybe it is possible for the fluid to get hot enough to cause the transmission to slip or something similar? Just a guess, may be way off.
