Lug nut difference?

Guys, I currently have the factory steel (chrome covered) wheels on my new 07 f250. I am wanting to upgrade to a set of 08 take-offs polished alum. wheels. Do I need new lug nuts or are they all the same?? The plastic caps are the same as mine which I will use.

Any thoughts on this??

Thanks !!

I would ask your local service department just to be sure. They should be able to compare part numbers.

It SHOULD be the same lug nut, but I think the problem is we (members) haven't seen enough '08s yet to be able to answer the question with 100% accuracy.

Thanks, I guess that the better question is,,, will the lug nut that come with steel wheels work on the alum. without any damage??

I know in the past on a ranger, I had to change them is the only reason I ask.

Thanks again !!!

I actually just replaced my steel wheels on my 07 f250 with some aluminum(aftermarket) and Yes I did have to replace the lugs.
The stock wheels used flat seat lugs and the aluminum uses conical seat type.
It is my understanding that if you use the incorrect seat type on the wheel it can lead to possible damage or lugs that loosens on their own while driving. Not good.

Flat nuts are used with hub-centric rims (center hole aligns the wheel to the hub), conical nuts are used on lug-centric rims (lugs center the wheel to the hub).

Superduty's are hub-centric. If you are comparing stock-to-stock, the alloy rims SHOULD be hub-centric and use a somewhat similar lug-nut. But with alloys, I really don't know personally.

Aftermarket, who knows...

It shouldn't be a different torque level - that is not determined by the wheel. It is based upon the stud size, which is unchanged.
