Ok, so my F350 has been sitting for about a month now while I have been rebuilding the front axle and driveshafts. Last weekend I was waiting for parts and nothing else to do so I power washed the engine. Made sure not to get the electronics (or so I thought). Anyhow, got the driveshafts back in today and fired it up to take it for a spin. The cel came on as soon as I backed out of the driveway then went off in about 2 minutes. When it went off the truck wouldn't go over 2000 rpm and was running bad. About 5 minutes later, light came back on and truck started running better, but still not like it should. I don't have a code scanner so I was wondering what I should check out. I already looked over all wire harnesses and conectors and they look fine. history on truck: 1995 F350 DRW 5 speed 4x4, 125K miles, downpipe, fpr shim, 6637 filter, 10k mod. I bought it for a grand about 4 months ago from my girlfriends dad, it was sitting in a field for about a year prior to that with a bad vacuum pump. Thanks for any help. -Eric
I would bet that the Exhuast backpressure vavle is closing or stuck. There is a two wire connector that is bolted tot he side of the turbo near where the intake tubing goes in. unplug that connector. It also possible that the valve is stuck part way closed. I pressure wash my engine the first time and did the same thing. its best to use low pressure rather than pressure wash as you have found out.
eric, i thought i had a good deal on mine 1500 bucks with a bad clutch but your deal was way better, do you want to sell it? If the top of the engine is still wet, take some compressed air and blow around the electrical connections/wires. Also, if it has been sitting in a field, there might be a rodent nest in the valley below the fuel filter, or chewed, frayed wires etc. both my trucks had nests there full of aluminum foil, insulation etc, all soaked with fuel. I used a parts retriever to pull a huge pile of garbage out, what a fire hazard! if there are some chewed wires down there, they could be affected by standing water or trash. dave
Ok, checked the EBPV, it was already unplugged... forgot I had unplugged it a while back. Don't see any cut or chewed on wires and don't see any fuel leaking so i doubt that is the problem. I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow and get one of my mechanics to scan it and see what code it throws. I'll let yall know tomorrow what I find out. Thanks for the help.
So here is what I did, cleared the codes with the scanner, light went off, scanned again and no codes, then came back on once driving. Then the cel shut off again and started running like crap. Runs ok to about 2000rpm then doesn't want to go anymore. Any ideas? I'm going to check the fuel presure tomorrow and see what I get there.
Did you recheck for codes after driving the truck? other problem is that none of those codes are on the info I have right now.
here is link to a codes list 9497faq/maint/9596pced.php3
No, i didn't check after driving because it didn't happen right away and I had to be somewhere. Now here is the newest thing it did. Went to start it up tonight to move it and it was hard to start then did the "bucking" Hit the gas pedal and all the way to the floor it wouldn't go above idle but it did smooth it back to a normal idle. I think i might drive it up to the local ford dealer in the next few days to get them to give it a scan. We just used a generic $100 scanner today. Who knows, hopefully there isn't a computer problem. I'll keep yall informed. If you have any ideas I'm welcome to the input. Thanks again
I think getting it scanned at the dealer or other shop with a good scanner is the next step. None of those codes you list seem to be valid engine codes.
Ok, so took it to the local shop that works on powerstrokes and cummins today. There computer wouldn't read it at all. Kept giving him a comm. error. Checked all the fuses and all were fine, took computer to a 97 and hooked it up, worked fine. He said he can tear into it for 85 bucks an hour to see what up but rather not go that route. Any ideas? The light is off for the time being but did the bucking at idle again today and still running rough. I'm lost.... thanks

double check the 4 vavle cover electrical connections for burned pins and also try to smell at the oil fill cap for burned plastic smell. might be worth the trouble to pull the valve covers and check all the connections in there too. Do you know what scanner the shop had that wouldn't work on your truck?
Yeah I was thinking burnt wire somewhere, ust don't know where. They tried two, a handheld matco standard obd II scanner and then also an all data scanner I think he said. Big roll around unit.
Just for S& G's, unplug the ICP & see if it improves the Idle .....Look for water in the plug, & like T J said, look at the valve cover connections.. make sure they are tight,.....
