Horn replacement

Suggestions on new horns? Mine is apparently very much dead...went to honk at a buddy day before yesterday and got a click. That was it. Just a click.

Pulled the horn last night (that was fun), it's dead.

So...suggestions?

I assume you put power to directly to the horn and it will not blow, and you see power at the horn when the button is pushed. Used horns are pretty cheap and there are lots of aftermarket horns around. I put a toggle switch on my dash so that the stock horn blows in one position and my OOOHGA horn blows in the other Good luck.

I have a realted question. IMO, my horn stinks. It doesn't seem loud enough for anyone to even hear if/when I need to use it.

Are all Ranger horns winpy like this or is mine weak?

What are some options out there for something that is louder, but won't kill the bank account?

Thanks,
CMOS

I just popped my hood - single horn setup. Would take about 30 seconds to remove. Wimpy little thing.

Aftermarket horns available that are louder?

Seems they used a single horn up until the mid 90s, then went to dual, and apparently by '04 were back with singles again.

And Oooga...where can I get one? Sounds like fun.

And yes, I removed it, checked for power at the wires, and directly tried to run it off multiple 12V batteries. Nothing.

Ebay has them (see item # 260128192801). They are a fun horn, and at 110db will get some attention.

if your familar with JC Whitney, they have a good selection of horns, the 91 ranger has dual horns i think they are FIAMM horns , some types have a small adjustment screw on they so you can tune them to hi-lo pitch. It basiclly varies the gap of the buzzer Other than checking them with 12 v power, you can check the resistance, as they are a vibrating device they could get stuck and just click. I guess you should blow your own horn once an awhile to keep them working !!!!!

i got a dixie horn setup from jc whitney back in '89 and it still works. put it in my ranger after it hadnt been used in years. still works, and loud. only thing better would be the "freight train" horn setup.
