Ok so I don't have the skills to make my own cable and even Bob's Ford Parts in CA doesn't have a supplier for a 66 F100 throttle cable. So I'm thinking I should go with a new gas pedal and possibly a mechanical linkage. The carb on old blue is nothing special so I continued my thinking that possibly this might be a good time to put a new carb in but as par for my course I haven't a clue which one to choose. All I'm looking for is a reliable truck (albeit a cool one!). I won't race him, and currently have no intention to fancy dance him up for shows. I just want to get in and not feel the necessity to check that I have my AAA card with me in case he doesn't bring me home.
He has the 300 6C engine and an awful awful 4 speed granny tranny. Dad had that put in somewhere along the line and I would welcome suggestions on alternatives as it is never thrilled with any other gear except second.
If you have a V8 then most certainly a cable is made for the truck. I know since I bought one for mine last summer for $79 from a place back in the southeast. I am going to have to look back through receipts to remember from where...

Reading comprehension on this board is not very high this week.
The truck is a '66 also, which is the cable that isn't available because it has the suspended pedal vs the earlier floor mounted one. These are not currently made.
I wouldn't be eager to change the carb. The stock carbs are so simple...your only choice is to change up to a newer carb that will have more emissions BS on it. To go to a completely different style of carb (say, a 4bbl) you will need to change the intake as well. My advice is, fix only what is broken. Don't make more unnecessary work at this point.
Obviously mis-understood the "He" in reference to the truck and not a person. Well I can still help you out. Go to eBay and type in:
"1961 1966 Ford Truck Throttle Cable Linkage 6 Cyl" or item # 190122256080 there will be a picture of a complete assembly only there is no mention of which 6 cylinder this would be for. Maybe someone can ID it by looking? Currently 9.99 with no bidders and 5 days 10 hours to go.
Sorry for the anthropomorphism ... Old Blue has always been a 'He' to me! And from what the vin decoders say the original color was beige!? Evidently the color change happened before I can remember. My plan is to replace the pedal et al with something a wee bit newer and go with a mechanical linkage. Any suggestions on what will require the least amount of cutting/drilling?

I did look at the auction earlier, and sent what I found along with the fleabay number to the OP via email. Knowing that most fleabay sellers never seem to know what fits what, I can only tell you this. Those parts do not fit 1961/64, because those years didn't use cables. Do these parts fit 65/66? Maybe yes, maybe no. Without knowing the actual length of the cable by measuring it, it's hard to say.

I looked at it too and it doesn't look anything like what my mechanic showed me ... since I don't know jack about all this I'm somewhat leery about ebay parts. I kinda like the idea of going to a non cable system since the cable left me DOH (dead on hill) and probably cost me a whole lotta gray hair!
The books say the cable is 28.66 inches ... they couldn't go the extra 1/3 for 27?? But from the pics there's no way of knowing the length.

Even IF the cable measures 28.66" it still could be wrong.
WHY?
Because there are TWO cables of that same exact length (C5TZ-9A758-AG & C6TZ-9A758-K) used on 240/300's in 1965/66, and they do not interchange. So which one is right? Dunno.
I know all about gray hair, and it's gettin' grayer by the day when I see some of the posts here on FTE! Tryin' to figure out what fits what, forces me to buy more "Hair Color for Men!"
