Power Programmer vrs. Chip
For anyone in the know: I've got a 1996 Ford Bronco XLT with the 5.8 liter engine. Hypertech makes a power programmer 3 for it, but I am just wondering if I would be better off doing a performance chip of some kind? I'm not as concerned about the price difference between the two: I just want to know about actual performance/gas mileage value between the two. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The programmer doesn't give a HP increase except at wide open throttle while the chip (assuming you mean Diablo or Superchips) tunes at all throttle positions. Both the programmer and a chip adjust the tranny. As to actual mileage, don't expect to see any significant increase with a 5.8 and a chip or programmer.
