Removability

Hello everyone. I'm real new to this site. Glad I found it.

I drive a 2000 F250 SD with a PSD. Overall the truck is great, I'm not real happy with the mileage but seeing as how my company pays for all fuel, I can live with it. Yes, my company provides me with the truck, covers all expenses, etc, etc. Downside is that we are not supposed to use it for personal trips. I use it around the city but getting caught towing would probably put my employment in jepardy, even though it came with a towing package from the dealer.

I have read a lot of the posts and would like to increase the performance somewhat. My problem is removability. I have researched many of the chips and it seems all can be removed and the truck returned to stock. But can I then put that same chip in a new truck? We get new ones every three years and the lease on the one I currently drive is up in a little less than a year. I would like to be able to carry the chip forward. With something like the Diablo, would it simply mean reprogramming? I checked the Hypertech site and they mentioned the module "marrying" itself to the truck. Sounds kind of ominous and not really what I need.

I realize Mr Payne sells several chips here and would be appreciative of any insight from him or others. Also, Mr Payne, do you have any Canadian distributors? I live in Calgary and getting the chip from in-country would eliminate alot of hassles with customs.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Cheers

Welcome aboard!

With a chip (Diablo, Superchips, WD, etc.) you will need to get it reprogrammed for another truck if it has a different ECU code (very likely since there are dozens of codes).

With a Tuner, different thing, but same result. It does marry itself but if you restore the truck to stock it can be sent in and reset for another truck.

Don't have any distributors, we're an independent, high volume dealer.

Ken;

Thanks for the help.

Seeing as how there is little time left for this truck, I think I'll wait till I get the new one. Then I don't have to wait for reprogramming. Maybe the Delta will be out by then.

Cheers

One thing to note is that the Delta will cost more. Not only will the blank chip cost more, but you have to pay about $35 for the switch cable. Dual programming (54HP and 78HP) is the same price as single programming.
