im going to look at a 94 xlt with a 5.8/e40d with 150k miles. the guy mentioned the speedo hasnt worked since he owned it so mileage may be higher. he said it shifts like there is a kit, could that be due to the speedo not working. also the abs light is on what usually causes this? the bronco is only $1500 which i figure is a decent price. would the speedo be an easy fix?
My guess would be the VSS on the diff. sences speed and ABS info for the rear axel would effect the ECC computer for shifting and cause the ABS light. For that price I would go for it.
its pretty much bought. the guy dropped it off at my house and we are doing the title/cash transfer this afternoon. the air bag light is on as well, does that tend to be a relay or fuse as well?
kem, the abs light indicates a fault in the brake system according to the haynes manual, i.e.: low brake fluid, parking brake set..... for the vss try and get a code reader to read any cdes in the computer
Air bag light is more than likely the clock spring in the steering wheel. These year Ford trucks are notorious for clock spring failures. I need one in my '94 and my old man just put one in his 94 e150.
kem, i bought an Innova FORD ODBI reader and extension on ebay for about $40-50. works great. needed it for my 94 lincoln conti. was very easy to use and very reliable. and had some testing features buit into the reader.
It is time for us to all jump in for the guy who has helped us so much. Kem, when I recalibrated the speedometer the shift points improved. My air bag light flashed 3-2 then cruise quit, then horn. Clockspring fixed it. A few months later getting a 3-4 flash on humid hot startup but quits on the next start. Not worried ....Looks like you got a great buy! Enjoy!
i thank you guys a bunch. this 94 is a whole new experience with the electric tranny etc.. its almost like i am learning all over again. is replacing that clock spring very troublesome? the speedo will also be interesting. i will have pics up on my superford site tomorrow.
congrats...big time... how many do you own now? were all becomming collectors it seems but why not as they are getting so darn cheap anymore. I would have 2 more by now for cheap if i didn't have the 150 and all the cars to get going.
Not sure how easy it is to replace - but remember it was a good $100 or $200 at the stealership. I thought I saw a DIY on one of the forums.... I gave up cause I didn't want the airbag exploding in my face... good luck with the 94.... got the same one '94 XLT 5.8... 160k and still running strong.
