i'm a proud owner of a 1969 f100.my problem is the starter.before I spend big $$ on a mini starter,is there a way I could find a junkyard score(what to look for;i.e model and year)i'm on a limited buget.besides there's nothing like a trip to the local junkyard.thanks
same thing happened with mine. its like the most complicated brain teaser in the world. but with some finagling and lots of beer you'll get it. you have to put the starter on the headers resting, and then lift them up and on and wiggle the starter into place.
hey fellow blue oval compatriots.I finally got it done.I receive the correct set of headers.did a dry fit.drivers side-a ok.the passenger's not so okay.at the time, the starter seamed to be the only obstuction.that was on monday.the same day I found this wonderful fourm.the following day, with help two bro's from another mother,(a mopar guy & a bowtie;A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING-depends on how you look at it)we got it done.it was an ordeal, but first a little history about my beloved 69 f100. she came from the san jose plant as a straight 6.when I bought her,she had a very tired 302 from a ? [all I know that the front slump oil pan drain directly into the crossmember]BIG MESS when changing the oil.year ago I got a good deal on a 5.0 from a 83 mustang, rear slump oil pan-no more mess-NICE
my longbed on stands.remove starter, header not fitting.maybe from the bottom.no go.AT THIS POINT,SOME OF YOU ARE PROBABLY THING "HEY FELLA,DID YOU GET THE RIGHT SET OF HEADERS" yes and I explain my situation to the manufacter.so we procided to unbolt the transmission and passenger motor mounts.unbolt & shimmy the crossmember that re-enforces the radius arms. until there was enough room.now that I think about it,there was probably no nead to remove crossmember.BUT IF YOU AINT WRENCHIN,YOU AINT LIVIN.
everthing bolted, including the headers,LOOKING NICE,well almost everthing ,the starter, the sucker too big.luck would have it that a late model 5.0 might have a smaller starter.off to your local pick-apart,'were one persons trash is another persons teasure'.ladyluck was on myside.I spot what appears to be a 91 ltd with a 5.0.and it still has a starter,a smaller one might I add.back to the mission at hand, not only did it fit,it works,YES!
BIG THANKS TO RED RED RED, DANGER DAVE & MARKS69 FOR RESPONDING TO MY SOS.NEXT TIME I'LL MAKE SURE TO READ THE MESSAGES
yeah the drivers side is always a breeze but when it came to the passenger side i was pissed that hooker didnt spend more time designing the headers to fit right. i even had to grind off a section of one of the ears on where it bolts to cylinder #4 because that was hitting too
