Drove my '49 F2 for the first time in 4 years today. She's been sittin since i went to college and i haven't had time or $$ to spend on her. Finally took the last 3 weeks gettin her moving.
Tires are all dry-rotted and don't hold air for more than an hour, She's gettin gas from a 5gal gas can in the front seat with a hose through the fire-wall, and there's rear breaks, lights, turn signals, or a bed. But she's runnin great after the carb rebuild, just doens't hold a charge so it has to be jumped every time i shut it off.
Your post made me smile. My first trip around the block sounds very similar, dry rotted tires, small fuel can bungee corded to the firewall, PVC pipe for an upper radiator hose, etc, etc, etc. I had a grin on my face for weeks
Ya it definitely made my week. I went last night with it to pick up my 15 year old sister from her friends volleyball court up on the hill. Needless to say she was quite embarrassed, but it was a good run.
She runs great, my grandfather rebuilt the flathead less than a month before it was parked. I put about 75 miles on it since the first roll and there were no leaks, loose bolts, or anthing at all other than the speedometer cable snapping off.
I've been splitting my time and funds between my 49 F2 and my '68 IH pickup, and i just got to the point where both are drivable, barely.
I just got out of college less than a month ago, and i don't start the new job until fall and i gotta start payin back those loans so it will probably be slow going while i'm still at the same 9$ an hour job i had in high school...
