I found a 460 all stock complete from carb to oilpan and he wants $300 for it is this about right? In case i go get it, what is this mammoth gonna weigh???
Price? I have no idea what condition it is in. How many miles? Recent rebuild? With the price of gas, they are going pretty cheap around here.
Weight? You at least need a hydraulic cherry picker to pick it up and load/unload it. You are not going to move it around by yourself. There isn't enough room for 6 men and a boy to grab hold and lift.
Sorry I meant just for the short block is $300 decent? I dont know how many miles etc it dont really matter its going to the machine shop as soon as i get it anyways.
Thats too much for a core which is basically what your buying, locally I can get a complete running 460 for 250-300 and I can buy cores all day long complete for 150 last 2 460s I bought, well one was given to me to get it out of his garage after I bought the C6 and NP205 tcase for $65. The other one I bought, complete carb to pan, radiator fan to output shaft of the C6 for $200, and that included the PS pump and alt with all the brackets etc.
If you're heading for the machine shop, it is a core. On the other hand, if you pay $100 too much for a core, how big a deal is it within your total budget? $3,000 vs $3100 to build out an interesting engine is small change. The bigger the bucks for the build, the less an overpay on one part impacts the total project.
i snaged another 429 a couple weeks ago for 50bucks and it's a runner. depending how bad i wanted somthing dictates the price ill pay for it.so if ya wanted the 60 rite now and had to have it my answer would be yup,but if ya got time to dig around and look somemore you'll find a cheaper core. me personaly tho (cuzz i dont need one) wouldnt pay more that 50-100 for a core motor
Wow i should of drove down there to buy a 460. Can't find one anywhere in manitoba. Went to a towing auction and a 75 f-350 with a 460 that had more oil on it than steel that u could see, went for $1350cdn. Found a guy that has three 460's blowing them out for 750 cdn but I got mine for 600 cuz i no him. He also has a cleveland with the the 4 bolt main for 750
well just think the longer we go into the future the harder these old big blocks will be to find and you can just about name your price then, but then gas prices might be 6.00 a gallon and then you won't be able to afford to put gas in it..
