I'm attempting a 351 / 460 swap. Bought a used MSD dizzy that has been recurved for my needs. I'm starting to run low on cash + was wondering how to wire up the dizzy using the stock coil + stock ignition box? Or, should I scrap that idea, save up the cash + buy a MSD Blaster + box?
A duraspark 2 ignition has three wires going into the dist, but a MSD dist only has two coming out. I don't know what that third wire is doing, so I would suggest getting a 6a or 6 off road box and tossing the DS2.
Does this used MSD have points? Does it have a module inside it? If you get the part number, MSD has an excellent site with instructions on all their products.
Thanks for the help + advise.
I have been to MSD's site + yes they do have wiring instructions for MSD stuff. I have dial up at home + their site loads this info in an Adobe format which takes forever.(I had to upgrade my Adode Reader just to view the page, that took 9 hours to upgrade.) I didn't find any instructions as to using a Duraspark + a MSD dizzy.
I was merely trying to save some money, but I don't want to cut up the wiring either, because I'll upgrade to all MSD stuff as I can afford it.
At this rate, I'll have $4500 tied up in a $900 truck which I'll only be able to drive to the gas station + back home. (Can't do much muddin or wheelin cause it's got D-44 front.)
The DS-II parts are superior to the MSD unless you are doing all out racing. Save your bucks and use the OEM parts. You don't say which distributor you have. There are three wires on the Duraspark unit distributor connection. The black wire is the system ground, the other two are signal and are polarity sensitive. DS wiring diagrams can be found below.
Tell us what model dist you have, and what model truck you have, and we may be able to figure out your options. I have been in the money crunch mode many times before myself.
