I had added my chip, exhaust and air filter all at the same time and could see quite a difference in accceleration in the truck. Prior to the truck getting to the dealer's (for service.)I pulled the chip so as not to confuse the issue. (not to get warranty coverage. I feel strongly that if a part fails because of a modification that I did, that is my problem not Fords's. Now if Ford won't warranty the leather seats because I put a new exhaust on........)
I do not see much difference with the chip out. Can anyone tell me precisely what performance changes they see? Shift points? Can you spin the tires? Top speed? Is there anything other than a dyno that I can specifically look for to see that the chip is working?
For all who are interested: I talked to Ken today and reinstalled the chip - correctly this time. Major tire spinning difference. Lots of black smoke when you kick it tho. Talked w/ Ken again and he suggested a new program. Chip went back FedEx today. I will let you know what happens when I get it back.
Dwights, what did you do different to install the chip right? I am having the same problem. I cannot tell if the Chip is working??? I cleaned off the computer good. I made sure of that. What else do I need to know? I would really appreciate any feed back.
If you are not certain the chip is working, then it isn't. I drove my truck for 3 or 4 months thinking it was working and had to pull the chip for service. When I saw no decrease in performance, I knew there had to be a problem. When installed correctly, there was no doubt. When I kicked her down, black smoke rolled out of the exhaust, the diesel just erupted and the truck took off. Upon reflection, I think I did something very dumb on the first installation. I am very familiar with computers and inserting cards and chips but I think I put the Diablo in upside down so that no actual contact was made between the connectors. Take a real good look at the install before you take the chip out. Also wiggle it a little bit to see if it is loose. Good luck.

Contact me via email and I'll be happy to assist. Due to server problems my availability with the phone is very spotty right now.
Well, gang here is the info. The first chip worked well after re-installing but produced a lot of smoke. Ken then sent me a new program which produced no smoke but the power was not there at the bottom end. Pronounced turbo lag.Plenty of power once the lag was overcome. It did however produce amazing MPG -- 25 mpg if I watched my foot carefully. Normal MPG for my driving is 16-17 mpg. After talking wiht Ken again, I returned the chip for yet another program. THis one produces almost the same power- hard to tell since my judgements are subjective without a dyno - as the first chip with only a very slight turbo lag. It will spin the tires. Mileage is about 22mpg. It smokes quite a bit when I really get on it at slow speeds but not as much at high speeds. No smoke in normal driving. One interesting point: If I am driving a a steady speed of 35 -50 mph with no acceleration- basically "idling at highway speed" even a slight depression of the accelerator produces a prodigous burst of black smoke. Just the thing to back a tailgater off!!!
All in all, I am delighted. Ken, thanks for putting up with me.
