Help w/ chips for new truck

I purchased a '01 350 7.3PSD supercab DRW LB 5" exhaust a couple weeks ago. I have run many fords in my life but first one with a chip and guages on it. The chip is made by Superchips and looks to be a 60HP chip.
Where does the chip plug in at and do I have to disconnect the batteries or anything special like that?
I have heard the chip can increase my mileage. What are your thoughts? I will also be using the truck to pull 12K # trailer this summer.
Thanks in advance!

Take it you have a Blue or gold hard chip, so it mounts to the test port on the PCM. Under the hood on the drivers side below the brake booster, you will find a 109 pin harness with a 10mm bolt in the middle. Loosen that bolt, and unplug the harness. Now remove the driver side kick panel, there are three bolts that hold the PCM to the body. I think they were all 10mm. Once you remove those, the pcm will slide out. With the PCM out look for a black plastic rectangle on the opposite side of the harness, I think it' says "do not remove." Pull that off, and remove the Torx bolts that hold the PCM's body together. The terminals your going to use are covered with cosomline and must be shiny before you install the works into the truck. Once they are clean, put the torx bolts/body back in the PCM, plug in the chip, secure the chip to the PCM with tape and reinstall in the truck.

I am not a fan of hard chips, you are better off with a programmer.

Yes, the chip is gold. Thanks for the help. I will install the chip tomorrow sometime. How does a programmer differ from a chip? Is the chip old and outdated then? My boost guage isn't working also. Where should I begin to look for problems in this area? Start by replacing the length of the hose first? Thanks for your help

Replace the hose or just look at it for kinks... That superchip chip is very old but they seem to work ok.
