ya i guess or i will just wait to get the total money in cash then save for a locker then the rebuild kit and labor then drive over there and buy them. they do need to be rebuilt right?
Eh, sort of. Most of the just need new seals. If you just replace them with stock seals, then you could DIY for under $120 easy. He gives you new boots for free.
You can do it yourself it you have normal wrenches and an engine hoist or front end loader, you don't need to pay someone to do it... they are very simple axles.
Are you putting these in a streetable truck or offroad only?
naw its a mud only truck..... would like to throw some 47-49" tractor tires on it so aslo if you know anyone selling any please lemme know. but ya its a strictly mud truck. and you said just the seals need to be replaced correct??
Well, it depends. Blake at Red River Parts said that he rarely sees an M35 come in with more than 20,000 miles on it. To me thats weird. Anyways, that usually means that the seals are still good. My axles had no leakage points on them, but I am going to replace the inner seals, that is where most rockwells leak. Sometimes you can get an axle shaft that has twisted splines, and then it is wisest to go ahead and replace it while its out, and I guess just keep the bad one as an emergency spare.
Oh, almost forgot- if you get a chance to look at them, you want as little pinion slop as possible.
He said he hasn't had a single complaint yet about any axles, and he sold 60 alone last week. Thats some pretty damn good rep.
damn ya im def. gonna buy from him for sure but thanks for all the advice and help i greatly appreciate it otherwise i woulda spent like $4000 for them from some place else
redriverparts.com has it all, its where I bought mine, and it's where I would go for business again. They are located in New Boston, TX... its in the faaaaaaaaaar Northeast corner of TX, right by Texarkana.
STAY AWAY from USA6x6, the owner freakin rips people off, BAD.
RRP's Rockwells run you $750 front and $375 rear. It's a good price, but not a killing. Powerstroker88, where are you located?
As far as the original post, I am probably going to run the original military rims, unless I can find a local shop to split the wheels, and then I will get two halves from the military wheels (will take a total of 8 rims) and then weld in some stamped centers myself, but I will have to order the center sections. this will result in a double beadlock similar to Stazwork's or USA6x6's...
Quadzjr, did I beat you in the rockwell race?
i guess you did, i picked mine up yesterday.....but its the rear is already rebuilt and is welded.....i just have to do the front...
He said a lot of people drive to get them from Fl. Try and find someone local who is going and tell them that you'll split gas 50/50 or you'll cover 2/3's the cost, and request that he picks you out a decent pair. Best way to going about that is join some local forums for offroading, I know yall have some... mud bogging is huge down there
no, no i didn't mean buy from him, go on to his forum.....lots of people on his forum are going to tex to get the axles, that would be a good place to find them....
Ah so you are beating me haha... just kidding. I am working on pulling the rear and front apart right now, to weld the rear and put a detroit in the front, but I still don't have a detroit. Blake was out of them at the time.
Where did you get your rocks from Quadzjr?
are you using solid boots or zipper boots?........ im using solid boots on mine...i heard the zipper boots suck!
Thats what I've heard too, but Blake gave me free new zipper boots for em, so I guess I'll run them until they rip. What sucks is once they rip and you go to replace them, you either use the zippered boots or take the knuckle off and use the solid boots. Anyways, judging by the old pair that came off my axles, I think that they seperate where the zipper-cloth is glued to the rubber. It didn't take any effort to free the zipper from the old boot.
Progress after day 2:
