In stock configuation you will see about 18psi. Some have reported 40 psi with a highly modded engine. Anything over that will require special head studs to keep the heads in place. For the most part 30psi is safe for a stock turbo. A chipped, intake and exhaust modded engine may have compressor stall. Compressor stall may damage the turbo if it happens to much or for long periods of time.
There a few guys here that have hodrod diesels and will like jump in here with more info. You can also go to the competition forum and get a ton more info too. It's here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum187/
Safe boost for your turbo is around 30-40 psi short burst but it will shorten it life.(you will run out of road before you can hold 30 psi very long) and 25 for longer periods but you will still run out of road. 40 PSI max for head gaskets with out head studs.
For the 94.5 to 97 there is no high boost code. thats a superduty thing. and the main reason is cause Ford is full of sissies who don't want to do warrantee work. If you have a truck under warrantee and are doing mods to it they don't want to fix what has been broken by mods. its the same reason ford does program them to have more power just like all the chips do. its cause they couldn't its cause they did want to.
I am not saying that if you push it higher than 25psi it will last forever cause it won't. but it is capable of more than Ford let it do stock.
I just had the garge scan my 97 and a code came up saying over boost.
One more question Would the 18k cause a code sayin hi/low injector pressure because that was the only other code they were able to pull
Really!!?? I have been under the impression that there isn't one. Any Idea what kind of boost your pushing? Also yes the 18K can cause the Injection pressure code you stated. It was probably a p1211.
Oh and if you pushing high boost check out my Wedshots and find the MAP regulator album. That will help you out with both the code and another issue that comes form high boost in our trucks. The MAp signal gets scambled and give a bad reading. Its all explained in my webshots.
havent got my gauges yet but it is close to what ever the computer is set to trip because when I turn it up all the way if I drive like a grandpa it wont throw the code just when I lay into it. For now Im just keppin it set about 2/3 so it wont throw a code and defuel. Later when I get gauges and a regulator Ill turn it up more.
do you still have stock injectors? I just can't figure out this code thing. I run 33 psi daily and even before the regulator no codes and no defuel. Everybody I have ever talked to said the same thing. high boost and nor code or defuel except one guy and he was making 40+psi
I think its got stock injectors and if i turn my 18 k up past about 2/3 when it shifts 2-3 it will turn on the SES light and if im layin into it will go into defuel. I dont expect to be able to take the full power of the mod because the litature about it said most trucks can't but I cant imagine this mod gives that much extra boost
What does it do when it defuels? does it stay that way till you turn the key off or does it just kind of flatline. When the HPOP can't keep up it will set the CEL and when it happens the power will just flatline there and stop accerating as fast. Mine would do it often before I went with the 17* HPOP. Though that still doesn't explain the boost code.
it would throw the light untill I turned the key off and then went away. When it "defueled" the truck would not go past 1500rpm but would go away and run fine after a minute or 2
