Ran thru Delaware emissions testing, and my HC was all out of wack at idle {no more than 400ppm allowed, reading of 1113}.
Got looking thru the little "help" book they give out, and saw that it is running to lean.
Surprised me for there is no backfire when letting off the throttle, and the idle jet is out 4 turns.
Looking thru all of the possible culprits, and I decided to check the PCV valve while the motor was running. Pulled it out of the valve cover, no change in idle.
Shook it around, no change.
Tapped it on the valve cover, changes in the idle!
This gets me to thinking, so I unplug the hose from the vacuum port, and the surging starts to go away!!!! Plugged the port off, and she idles all the way down to 500 RPM.
NOW my question is, what the frack is going on here?!?
Do I have some other problem that is totally eluding me and looking like something else?
The "Stock" version had the main hose pulling the blowby into the base of the carb, and a second smaller hose being "t'ed" into the float bowl evaporator hose.
Since losing the second hose, I can get the motor to idle at 450 RPM, with the timing at 6' and the idle screw at 1 1/2 turns out. It has not done that during the entire time I have had that motor in the truck. The lowest idle I achieved before was around 800 rpm, and any lower it would pop and crack like crazy. Now, except for an occasional pop, you cannot here it running from 10 feet away!!
It's like having a whole new motor!!!
