I lost my trailer lights and fender lights on my 95 350 dually. I plugged the trailer in and they died all the fuses in the dash our good running lights and clearance lights work any help appreciated
Maybe double check fuses but also check the connector. It may be dirty and not making contact. Also check wires on trailer to be sure they have not worn thru somewhere.
trailer brakes work fine I checked the wires out last night and they were ok. i just find it strange that I lost my side dually clearance lights and trailer lights. Everything else works very strange if you ask me
Sounds like there was a short somewhere in the trailer or connector that, possibly, blew the bulbs. You may want to check the bulbs on your clearance lights and while there check to be sure they are getting voltage. That should fix the lights.
Now back to the problem, like I said check the wires and connector make sure the trailer has a good ground for the harness/plug. Apparently something is bad on the trailer to cause it to fry your lights on the truck. I would also check the fuses with a meter or test light. I have had fuses that were blown but they looked fine even if you hold them up to a light.
I checked bulbs last night and they are all good. I pulled the trailer plug apart and found a tiny piece of wire shorting out to prongs on the plug I removed it and got turn signals and brake lights on the trailer but still no running lights and no fender lights on truck. Thanks for your help and support
Tom
The trailer running lights are a separate circuit from the truck tail/running lights. The trailer lights are controlled by a relay actuated by the truck tail light circuit. The relay and fuse for the trailer lights are in the engine compartment fuse box. Fuse No.4, Relay 4. Fuse should be 25 amp if it is good try a new relay, short may have burnt the contacts.
Thanks Craig I was figuring something like that i just was'nt sure where to look. Do you think it would be strange that the dually lights (fender markers)would be out? I think they are all wired together because the dually fenders are more than likely installed after the trailer wiring, therefore they just bugged off the trailer wiring for the dually wiring. Make any sense? I will check out the engine compartment fuses tonite thanks
