302 beating Camaros

who built it, was it some dude off the street or a company (Like Lingenfelter or TNT)? How much did he spend on it, is that legal?
I guess I should read the article, do they have it posted on the magasines website?

302 beating Camaros

I am a die hard ford fan. I can't even count how many times I've seen a mustang blow the doors off a camaro. I like Chevy sports cars but nothing is better than a 302 mustang. I've driven in many 350 camaros and they are fast but nothing spectacular, and they drive rough as hell. Then you get into a mustang and hold on. Chevys old 305 was a joke! How many of those have you seen fixed up. I'm just a car and truck guy in general. So if you got a Chevy all the power to you, but give Ford some props for being fast on the street and strip. Dodge who?

I'll give ford some props, it seems the only ones who can roll with me are stanks and dipers, this is ofcourse excluding all those cars that are more than a 100g The only other "competition", using that word lightly, is the uncle bens ricer cars with their stage 4 turbos and 2 liter mufflers. the only thing that sucks about them is if you beat them they follow you and see where you live and wham, your stuffs gone, they'll take everything and somehow bolt it to their car, real big prob up here, they don't like losing. Got some more stuff for my car too

I'm not going to call you crazy, but if you outran a 99-up Mustang GT, he must have not been racing. These cars will run with the new LS1 twins in the eighth mile. I watched an auto 99 GT pull a 9.01 right off the street (stock-no mods. And for your buddy, reassure him that he can modify his GT to run with the twins also. I consistently outran (he sold the car)my buddys 96 Formula six speed (he had bolt on mods)with my 91 GT (stock long block) with bolt ons. Both cars on radials. He needs to learn to get off the line quick and powershift. Practice, practice, practice. 302's rule.

89 F150 4x4 300/4 speed 33.12.50 w/Rancho lift 3.55 gears

What was your best 1/8 th mile time before you went into the engine? My 91 GT has no problem with LT1's at the dragstrip. I only seen one come close to my times and that was an automatic. He had about the same bolt on crap I do. The 302 can run with them with some bolt on's.

A Mustang can outrun a Camaro and can run WITH a Corvette. I had a 89 5.0 LX hatchback. The motor was basically stock except for O/D pulleys, bigger injectors and a K&N Aifilter. Add 2 flowmaster mufflers, a 3.73 rear, a set of Weld racing magnesium rims (very light), a Saleen wing for downforce, and a set of Z rated tires and it can be done. Lined up with a 95 Corvette. Rode side by side until 35 mph, ran them up to 120 and the Corvette was 1 car length ahead. By the way to Mustang had been totalled, I had $8000 in it with everything done to it, and ran with a $30,000 car. It can be done with very minor modifications. Only problem is that after 100mph a Mustang doesn't handle very well and also doesn't stop worth a crap. That is what the 2nd turn off lane at the dragstrip is for, The mustang turn-ff.

Bad news: GM wins the horsepower award with 6000 hp.

Good news: All that hp comes from a 16 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine in a locomotive; won't be racing your poor Mustang (or my F150). How does 12 wheel drive sound?

I don't know. I had a 92 LX 5.0 that ate the competion alive. The 302 had 111,000 miles on it with the only mod being a good exhaust. The plug wires had never even been changed in it. I managed to consistently beat any and all. Sometimes maybe it's just the driver and the aggression that he drives with.

Not hard to beat a Mustang with a 5 speed. The first gear is too low. I have a '98 Z28 with a 6 speed and I test drove the 'Stang with the 5 speed. The Z28 is better hands down!!

Tried and true.

Tried and True? And you own a Camaro? Sounds more like Tried and Turncoat.
