im looking for subs that will fit behind the seat of my 92 flareside nite, i have 5-6 inches max of room....the seat has to be all the way back otherwise it is awkward to drive....if u could help me out with a brand name or somtin that would be great.
The place to start is by figuring out how big a box you can fit there; mock one up out of cardboard or something. Unleash your high-school geometry skillz to calculate the volume, and remember to use the inside dimensions, not the outside. Then you can look for a sub that will work in that volume. I'd guess that a smaller sub (or subs) would be best, like 8" or 10". Maybe a Kicker Solobaric or a JL 10W1 or 8W1 (if they still make those).
The new Alpine Type S 10" subs have a mounting depth of 4.5". They sound great with moderate power. Also some brought one of the new Pioneer shallow mount subs in to the store the other day, and I must say, it was pretty cool looking and sounded great. I hooked it up to an amp in my sound room and it cranked. It sounded just as good once installed... I know they don't require alot of air space to work so that might be the best solution for you. Check out AUDIOENHANCERS. They make alot of truck boxes and they give you the specs on the website. You can use their numbers as a reference when building your own.
I had 2 12" pioneer premier shallow mounts in my single cab dakota, and they sounded amazing and i had plenty of leg room too. I think i only had to move my seat up like 2 inched but i pushed the back of it all the way to the window and it was comfortable.
heres the link to what i have. and if you dont want 12s they have 8s and 10s as well. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...969819,00.html
and the max power on them are crazy. i think on those its like 1400 watts.
