[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Oct-02 AT 03:15 AM (EST)]Well I went ahead and bought the Tuner. Had a minor problem on the installation because my truck's code was not recognized, but Ken was the man and took care of the problem. Had to send the Tuner to Superchips to get updated with my trucks code. They did a very quick turn on the update and when I received the Tuner back, it took about 10 minutes to install the program from start (opening the box) to finish (unplugging the tuner). Was extremely simple to install.
Performance is just outstanding. First thing I noticed was increased throttle response, followed by just great shifting. No lag on the shift when nailing the accelerator when doing about 40 MPH. Power has definately increased. I also raised the speed limiter. Got on the autoban and took it up to 100 MPH on the way to work. Was nice not to have it die at around 95 MPH. Engine RPMs were at right around 3250 doing 100 MPH and the truck still had lots of power left. Increased to around 3500 RPMs, not certain how fast I was going, but the speedometer did swing back to 5 MPH. Had no problems with handling, the truck was very solid on the road. (Note for concerned speed folks: no speed limit on alot of the autoban in Germany and the road is made for the speed I was going and conditions were perfect. Also, I was being passed at the time.)
Very impressed with the tuner. Wish I had gotten it earlier.
Can you give me some details on this chip tuner. I have a 2002 Exc with a V10, 2 wheel drive. I found the governor kicks in at 96 mph, and I want it removed. I am pretty ignorant of the new electronics so I need some guidance on how to fix my problem. I worked on cars at a service station when I was in high school in the 70's - these things sure have become more complex over the years.
I have traveled to Germany on business on a number of times and always loved running on the autobahn. There is nothing like cruising at +125mph and have a V12 Beemer or Benz blow by you at 175mph. The vortex coming off those cars at that speed pulled me and an Audi A3 over half of a lane to the left.
It is pretty simple to do. You get the tuner from the on-line store here. The Tuner is like a large Game boy. You plug in the port under your dash and fire it up. It asks you some pretty easy questions and tells you exactly what to do. One of the questions is to Raise the Speed Limiter. I answer yes and it was gone. There are posts in here that explain it some more.
Just fixing the shifting made me happy. The extra power and speed limiter being upted are just a bonus.
Is there any difference in the firmness of the shift depending on how much you have your foot into the accelerator? I would love to have the tire chirping shifts at WOT but don't want to lose that smooth shift when taking the ladies out on dates.
I do notice that the shifts are a little firmer than stock
when easing your foot into the pedal, but not enough to
spill your coffee or scare the ladies.
Put your foot into it though, and it snaps your neck
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Oct-02 AT 01:20 AM (EST)]Hey FourByFour, I also have an 02' F-250 Superduty and I just received my Superchips Micro Tuner. Is the fuel pump fuse under the hood like Superchips indicates (and jaxf250's is in his 01')or is it behind the dash under the steering wheel like the owner's manual indicates? I am worried about damaging the engine by not pulling the correct fuse. Monsta responded to my post in the Superduty forum and it appears that the fuse behind the dash is the correct one but my cautious nature (and my wife will give me more knots than a pine tree if I break the truck) wants me to be sure.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Oct-02 AT 10:54 AM (EST)]4x4,i have a truck very simaliar to yours, have you had a chance to track your fuel mileage? Or is it a lost cause because your go pedal is buried all the time now? Fuel costs here are .20 more per gallon from 87 to 91.Im thinking the slightest increase in mileage would be all the justification i need Thanks.
I just had the first chance to do some highway driving (800 miles) with the
K&N and the SCMT changes installed, and my mileage went from
11.3 on the highway (pre-install and pre-tune)
to 11.9/12.0 - wow!
I was surprised and glad to say the least! Anyway, hope this helps.
Sorry for the delay in getting back. Been HUGE busy.
Doczeneth1, I agree completely with jaxf250. The major improvement you notice in shifting is when you stomp on it. I had a 78 F150 and when I put a shift kit in the C6, you felt every shift. The tuner shifting is nothing like that.
DVD nimrod, if I am not too late, the fuel pump fuse is located under the dash in the Fuse block.
Farni, my usually driving is either stop and go, or on the autoban doing 85 mph or so. Prior to the tuner, my average mileage was 10.5 mpg (according to the computer). Only filled up twice since I installed the tuner. Mileage on the computer is showing as 10.3. Now, I do not do any distance driving, which dramatically affects the mileage. I would like to tell you that mileage increases, but just can't make that claim. Sorry.
Not too late, actually just right. I had to send the Micro Tuner back for an update. I sent it out last Monday, 2nd day air. I know Superchips received it on Wednesday. I wanted to send it next day but that was twice as much. I didn't receive it on Friday so hopefully it will be here tomorrow.
I was pretty sure the fuse was under the dash since I couldn't find any other place it could be. Thanks for the confirmation, though.
Well, I received my SCMT back from Superchips on October 30th. I didn’t get it installed until Nov. 1. Even then I didn’t get much of a chance to test it out. My initial impression is quite positive. The truck will now spin the tires with ease on dry pavement. I set the shift pressure at 3 points above minimum and it has a very solid feel when it shifts now. I also eliminated the speed limiter, but the situation hasn’t come up to see if it worked. I will only try it when there is nobody around. I do not want to endanger anybody when I do it.
Over all I really like what the SCMT has done for my truck.
