Upgrade to telescoping mirrors

I'm a new member to the Excursion club, just bought an 05 Ltd 2wd diesel and it comes with regular power, heated with signal mirrors. I am trying to find out if I can up grade to ford telescoping power, heated with signal mirrors. None of the local dealerships can tell me. Has any one done such an upgrade or know if it can be done. I dont want to buy the parts (over $500/pair) and they not work.

Smile plug in tt mirrors

they will work but you will have to run a wire for the running light. i just tapped into the illumination wire for the window switch. i think it is a blue wire on the switch. this way i didn't have to run a wire through the door. but, the switches light up all the time when the ingition is on. no biggie. and for the best price, check out some of the sponsors on here. i have them and got the chrome signal cover. check out my gallery to see pics.

not sure on excursion...But starting in ~mid 04 the F series trucks came pre wired for the heated signal lights weather you got them or not.. my mid year 04 came with tow package BUT not the tow/signal mirrors.. it came with sport power mirrors.. When I pulled the door panel I found that the wiring was there to add the signal mirrors...

Try this.. Take and pull up on the panel that the drivers side door locks etc rest in... When you pull the unit out carefully reach behind the panel towards the front and youll see the PLUG for the mirror... In my case the plug coming from the mirror had 4 wires.. BUT the harness it plugged into had 6 WIRES... 3 OF THEM NOT CONNECTING TO THE OLD MIRROR.. When I put a dvm on them and looked at the pinouts for tow mirrors my suspicion was correct.. Prewiring was all done.. Plug and play deal.. Ive read that all 05's Up had it... some later 04's as well..

They will definitely physically fit. You may have to do some wiring, but thats no big deal...

Have you thought about getting the '08 mirrors? Just a thought

Thanks for all the responses! The ford part # I'm looking at is 5C3Z17682EAA (17683). I know there are after market items that replace this ford part and I'm still deciding which way to go -- to ford or not to ford. I'm not up on the new design, too boxy for me. Unfortunately, I'm not user friendly enough to try taking my door panel off myself, but all your responses let me know I'm heading in the right direction.

My '05 came factory wired for heated/power/runninglight/turn signal tow mirrors even though I had the dog ear signal mirrors. I just swapped the mirrors, plugged them in and everything worked just fine.

As far as taking off the door panel - It's real easy on an 05. It took me all of 3 minutes. The entire mirror swap & upgrading the door speakers took 20 minutes total.

I have the tow mirrors on my 03. They are wired for heat but they do not have the turn signal. The wife was asking if we could swap it with the signal mirrors. With the mirrors wired for heat, would the plug have all the rest of the wires?

My 02 has the wiring for signals although it had the TT mirrors without signals so I expect your 03 does also.

It's the brown wire in the plug.

I'm still looking to trade a set of OEM TT heated power non signals for a set of heated power signal paddles.
