I dont know what the problem is but im really starting to get pissed. I already ppayed the shop once and now im taking it back. Its beyond me but this is my fourth time back to the shop and every time they said they have fixed it. I got stuck out in the parking lot of Golden Corral (sp?). It runs off of a jump but not for long, after a little while it completely dies. First the lights, then the dash lights, then the motor cuts off and no p/s with 38's running down a back road not 11:30pm gets kind of scary.

You obviously have a testlight, since you said you did the drain test. If you have a voltmeter, you can check to see if it's charging.

actually I just had to put an alternator on there day before yesterday. The old one was charging before the drain and then died, the new one is putting out 14.5 volts but as soon as the truck is shut off the drain begins to suck it back dry. Ive just been unhooking my battery while sitting there over night etc. This drain is more than just a pain!

With the testlight, you never figured out were the drain is coming from?

I dont know if yours is setup anything like my 87 Ranger, but I just took a quick look at the wiring diagrams for the Ranger.

The only unfused item on the Ranger that I can see causing a drain would be a stuck EEC main relay.

Since an 87 Ranger is'nt equipped with a check engine light, there would be no way of knowing the relay was stuck closed.

Try removing the relay & see if your drain goes away.

Did you ever remove the alternator wires to see if the alt was the drain?

actually not as of yet,I put a new alternator on it last week but was in such a rush I didnt have time.

Before I get to any of that though I have to go get the truck back. I drove about a half hour to Carollton GA to go pick up a dirt track car and it ran fine the whole way there but on hte way back with the trailer and all it jumped time on me. Its been out there for about 2 days now.
