I remember the case of a farmer shooting the tires out of a car. The theives were constantly coming in and stealing gas from his tanks for his tractors and trucks. Because it always took the police so long to arrive on the scene the theievs would be gone. so the farmer took things into his own hands. When the theives came back he shot the tires out on the car. They could not go any where and sat in the car whilehe held the rifle on them. Police arrived and arrested the theives and the farmer for attempted murder. In the trial the judge threw out the charges on self defense or protecting his property.
Just stupid the criminals get to charge someone for protecting their property.
Another one is where this guy caught a young offender in his house. He broke the door in and damaged some property when the owner came home and caught him. Held him for the police. Police arrived and let the kid go. They said it would not go to court due to the kids age.
Needless to say when he got everything fixed and replaced. Lo and behold it happens again. Same kids. This time the owner gave the kid a good beating and let him go. Later the kid comes back with his parents andthe police to charge the owner. His response was he came home and found his house broken into again and scared the kid whilehe was carring his stereo up fromthe basement. The kids fell down the stairs with stereo and the tv that was sitting at the top of the stairs. Police did not charge him. Of course the kid and parents were not happy. But the guy said his house never got broken into ever again since then.
So vigilantism can work if done right.
yes it could work, but it would also have to be monitored. it could definately get out of hand, just as there are "bad cops" that have twisted minds...
Those kinda stories make me mad Glen. How retarded is our justice system? I tell you If I caught some kid swiping something from me, they would get a smack too. Just as i would expect if I stole something from someone.
sometimes the middle east traditions are good. if your caught stealing...off comes a hand. caught with someone elses woman, off comes your ...well, you know how it is...
As for a good scaring story, my neighbor back home, avid conservative supporter, always got his sign stolen from the highway, always, and he lives like 150 yards off the highway. So he sat out there for a long while, put up a new sign, and the guy shows up. The guy slows down, gets out of the truck, and my neighbor, sitting a good 150 yards away, unloads his MM straight into the air about five times. I guess he's never seen a guy have so much trouble trying to get back into their vehicle.
