I want to upgrade my rims to 20's or 22's. Someone told me i loose gas mileage is this true. If its true do i need to purchase bigger brakes. Anyone have advice for me.
Well, the simple answer is yes.... but the question isnt that simple. What kind of tires, and what size tires do you plan on running? The overall diameter will determine what kind of power/mileage loss you will see. What do you have for gearing? Bigger brakes are certainly a great upgrade whenever you increase tire or rim size... but probably isnt a "must-do" for what you are planning.
It depends how heavy the wheels are, most 20's and 22's are heavy. So you would probably loose a little. My 20's are heavy but my fuel mileage isn't too bad.
You don't have to get bigger brakes some F150s come from the factory with 20's or 22's and don't have bigger brakes. But bigger brakes would be nice to have if you got lots of mod money.
Well? I prefer a all season tire, or performance tire. Rims i am leaning towards a 22' inch rim! But i want the tire to outlast my stock tire's, i have contiental right now stock factory tires and it makes my truck very bumby!! I drive an automatic v6 f150.
Diameter wise 295/45-20!

If you think its a bumpy ride with the stock 17's, then you have a big surprise with 22's. I have 275/55/20 (20" rims on a 31.9" tire.) Nice size sidwall but it is a whole different ride than stock. They ride stiffer, and you can feel every difference in the road. So basically the bigger the rim you get the bumpier the ride is going to be. I would never but 22's on 30" tires on my truck. It would shake my teeth out, and my truck sounds just like yours.
I was just saying that if you want 22's then your going to have to live with a harsh ride. My 20's run rough, but I can live with it. Doesnt' really get smoother with 22's without haveing at least 33" tires.
