Welding vs Clamping

Hey yall, I was wondering that would it be easier to weld or clamp? I also would like to know do muffler clamps leak?

I was planning to run my exhuast "for fun" after the manifold headers have each one have their own glasspack then turn down at the bed. But I also want to put the old exhuast back.. Not only that I know their is sensors in pipes, any sugestions?

Now, I will listen, because I've been wrong before, and I'm sorry..

If it were my truck i'd do some research on what your truck will sound like with glass packs VS. other mufflers. Once you make your decision, have a professional weld up the exhaust system real nice.

There's nothing worse than a loud bumble bee sounding truck with tick that sounds like a fully automatic pellet gun.

Don't half *** the exhaust system... it's a hassle to change out once it's in whether you weld it or not. When you crank down on the clamps to seal the exhaust it actually crimps the pipe and makes it nearly impossible to slide off. You're going to more than likely cut the pipes off and start over fresh whether you weld it or not. It's better to just do it right the first time.

Do a search on youtube for six cylinders with glasspacks vs. six cylinders with flowmasters. Try searching for a 4.0 Jeep clip. There are more on youtube and i've had both engines... they sound real similar... except the 300 doesn't scavenge half as well and it sounds a tad deeper.

Well, I'm not going to do it... I change my mind.... If I change it out, I will later on change it back on which cost $$$$$....

I just want to know what kind of paint would I use to spray paint the exhuast to keep it from rusting especially the muffler? I am doing an exhuast system for my father inlaw...

Go stainless steel then. Paint burns off and exhuasts will just rust from the inside out then If you have to coat it just to get a few extra years out of it, I'd buy some cheap header paint, the 1200* stuff.

If you do any exhuast work, clamp it to see if you like then weld it. So much better, never have to worry about leaks or rattles.

As for Hi-Po muffler vs. Cherry bombs. . .

Cherry Bombs have a sort of. . .wet, farty sound to them. I had those, then went to a Dynomax muffler. Sounded awesome, idle was almost a diesely sound. Good sound accelerating. I turned mine down under the bed, it was LOUD! And had abnoxtious resonation around 2500 rpm. . .which was cruising speed, and really annoying. Never turn it down again, too much. . .also was setting off car alrms with it

You could try the Preformed Exhaust Band Clamp, or also called Lap-Joint Band Clamps to hook every thing together. A little pricey, but if you are going to switch out pieces, they bolt and unbolt pretty easy, and if you don't wait very long, the pipes will still come apart.

The mail order catalogs carry them, and your local NAPA store can order them in for ya also. They run about $10 to $14 each. Just tell 'em what size pipe you got, and look it up in the book.

Also, I put a $19.95 Cherry Bomb, 2.5" in and out, on my truck, bolted right to the Cat, and it makes more noise than stock, but only 10db at most. Little better sound though. Maybe if I ever get around to the intake and headers........
