Dash gauge problem

Guys, my brother in law's 99 has a problem. The truck will start, but no gauges register. When you start it, no wait to start light. Only the battery light and seatbelt light. All the gauges are dead. Also the the throttle is working speraticly. He did have problems with the od wires and had to repair them some years ago. We think one might have shorted. What would that take out? Thanks for your help.

Sounds like he fried something. Does the horn and wipers and windows/doorlocks etc. all still work?

Thanks for the reply cookie. We found it, it was a fuse. He checked them, he just missed it. Problem solved, hopefully. We think the wires he fixed just popped the fuse, so we went back in and fixed them right. Thanks.

I have the same problem, but my fuse blows about once a week. I traced it out on a wiring diagram and that fuse is tied into the throttle pedal, overdrive button and a solenoid in the trans. Sometime the fuse blows at start up and sometime when shifted into drive. What wires did you find chaffed and where? thanks.

elw, they are really easy to get to. pull the bottom dash cover below the column. Then pull the bottom and top column covers. There you will see the (I believe) three wires coming out of the shifter handle. You can unplug that harness just before it disappears under the gauge cluster very easily. If you find a chaifed wire and from the sounds of it you will. Take a small hammer and punch and knock out the roll pin holding the shifter in. Once the knock the roll pin out, the shifter just comes out. Now you can work on it in the shop or on a bench. I don't recall what color the wires were, but I believe there are only three that come out of the shifter. I really was an extremely easy fix. He said "column", and I said "oh hell!!!". But it was as cut and dry as I described. I hope that helps.

Hello,

A blown 10A fuse (#19- PCM, Control Panel) caused my F-250, 2000 7.3L, Diesel to simply stop. The truck would start and simply idle when the accelerator was pressed. No throttle response, and no panel display besides battery and airbag. My main indication that it was electrical was that I had just driven the vehicle home ran in to grab the kids for a pizza party, and then the lack of response.

This post is for information only in the hope that someone else will not end up paying for towning, diagnostics, and loss of vehicle for several days (Ford dealer is not open on the weekend, and was happy to have my truck towed there and sit until Monday).

Cheers, -bn-
