Anyone know if inserting a blank gold chip would screw up the computer or engine? I have a 2000 7.3 2WD w/ 106k miles on it. I put the chip in without knowing that it needed to be programmed. Now, every morning when I go to start it the batteries are drained. It barely turns over, just enough to start.
Could I have cleaned off the cumputer terminals too much, causing them to contact each other? Thinking of buying a new computer, but need some advice.
THANKS!
It shouldn't have hurt anything, but try disconnecting the battery for a while to let it reset. The terminals shouldn't make contact even if you rubbed them down to the board, over cleaning just means they don't have much material to make contact with.
How much hp does the gold chip add to a 99 F250? I think it has the basic tune. A friend of mine just bought a 99 with a gold superchip on it.He asked me if I could find out how much hp it added.
On the Gold chips you couldn't tweak tunes. Still can't with Superchips. Superchips gives the dealers stock tunes to load. With the gold chips you either loaded a 60 or 80 HP, or maybe one of a limited selection of alternate tunes, if any, that Superchips provided for the PCM code. In some cases a dealer could fill out a custom sheet and have Superchips provide a custom tune for a fee, but it was expensive and took too long.
SCT came into being as a way for Superchips to provide custom tuning capabilities to dealers. With the SCT software you can tweak all the PCM settings individually without having to go to Superchips to do it. SCT... parted ways with Superchips a long time ago, after they got successful.
Thanks Ken for the info. The chip is probably just 60 hp. Like I stated above it was bought to help tow a camper. I doubt he got a performance tune for towing. I really liker the SCT tuning I have on my truck. It gets good MPG along with great shifting & about all the power my N/A motor is going to give me.
