Smile clearance lights (ROOF)

HI everyone,
Looking for someone who has a 1973 thru 1977 for f-250 with the factory roof lights for some measurements. I don't have them, and would like to so need to know how far they are located behind the end of the gutters, are they straight across or curved with the windsheild, are the middle 3 closer together? Please any help would be greatly appricated. If I remember correctly 78 and 79 has different lights and spaced differently.

Thanks and have a great day

I have a 77 crewcab at home with those cab lights on the roof. I will take some measurements and a pic when I get home.

I"ve mounted the lights before on a truck that didn't come with them.Instead of going by measurements.I went to a junk yard with a long piece of cardboard.I unscrewed the lights that I needed fom a junk truck and then used the cardboard as a templet by notching the correct screw holes from the junked trucks roof. Then I just measured for the reference point for the center light.I then put the template on my truck and all the holes lined up just right to be drilled.Good luck (oh and try and get the wire harness from the donor truck it'll also make life a lot easier)

I have a 77. I went out and measured and this is what I came up with. First off..they are in a straight line..they do not follow the curve of the windshield. There are 3 in the middle and 1 on each side further out. The 2 outside lights are 6 inches from the windshield gasket. The one in the center is 8 1/2 inches away and the lights on the sides of the middle one are 8 1/4. Make sense?

I did mine myself.

I used a piece of string across the roof from the front part of the rain gutter.

Mark the ends with black marker ink Find the middle and measure 9" from each side

and from the ends mark it at 12" or something like that..
drill the front hole on the string line mark and drill the back wherever the light hold down hole goes.

If you have OEM lights you will need to drill a 1/2" hole to allow the connector to pass thru the roof

Thumbs up

Here are the measurements I promised:

The center light is 2 1/4 inches back from the bend crease above the winshield. (from bend to front edge of light.)
The next one out is 3 inches from the bend and 9 1/2 inches from center of light to center of light.
The outside light is 3 inches back from bend and 13 inches from center of second light to center of this light.
The dimensions are the same going to the other side of truck. The lights are not in a straight line but do not quite follow the curve of the windshield but are close. Let me know if you need any other dimensions...... Rod

I really liked 78f250supercab's idea of using a template.

Hey armstrongfordtrucks, if you need a template, let me know. I'll grab some cardboard and make one from a 1977 F250 supercab, should be the same?

Just let me know. It sounds like something I need to have on hand anyway so I'll make 2.

I just installed Pacer Hi Five Roof Lights on my truck ( See my gallery ). The lights have a little curve to the base and I used that to determine the set back. I then put some masking tape on the roof , found the exact center of the roof and worked outboard, Eyeball and measure until it looks right. That would be measure twice and drill once...

BTW also check my engine change album and you will see that your old frame towers are now gainfully employed... Thanks again,

DK
