I have a 1994 F150 XL Single Cab that's in pretty good shape. Does anyone with this year and model (or close to it) is experiencing the doors rattling when you hit bumps in the road.
First, is there some way to tighten or adjust the door mechanisms so that the door shuts more securely (maybe some sort or rebuild kit).
Secondly, I noticed that the flat part around the door, neither the flat part of the truck body, where the two come together, doesn't have any type of rubber seal. I think it came from the factory that way. Do you think a seal that will fit around this area will help? If so, where to buy?
Happy with trucK, but aggrevated by door rattle!

The truck body should have a seal around the entire door area. There's also a strip on top of the door. This is probably a lot of the rattle if you don't have anything (major air leak also). Check the door striker, if the plastic bushing is worn or gone replace it. Hinge pins and bushings also wear, causing the door to sag and not shut properly. A properly adjusted door will have a distinctive click-click when it shuts and should shut almost effortlessly. (BTW, does anyone else hear a Ford door shut across the parking lot and look up? )
You can always tella Ford by the way it starts and the door shutting. As for the question at hand.Igot a 95 and I driveit everyday at 75 mph down the highway....mine wouldbang against the cab fromthe wind and crosswind.Iwent to LMCtruck.com bought the seals and had both sides in in less than 15 minutes....nowthe seal is so tight in the cab I have to crack a window to get them to shut all the way but a rattlenow?LIKE HELL!
You might want to check the dealer for the weatherstripping around the door......I replaced my window sweeps (rubber at the bottom of the drivers door, inside and out). LMC TRUCK had them for $19.95 plus shipping......Dealer was same price....no shipping.
Striker bolts are in the "Help" section at most parts stores.......just take your old one to match up.....trucks are bigger than the cars. At least $5-6 cheaper than the dealer.
Problem solved! My door, from the inside, kept getting harder and harder to open until today, when I snapped off the plastic handle on the drivers side. I removed the handle mechanism, as well as the stricker (I wanted to replace it with the handle, to try and fix my door closing problem). I picked up a handle for my local auto parts store, and after talking with the salesman about the stricker, I didn't know that there were suppose to be plastic bushings over the stricker. I replaced the handle, and put the new bushings over my old strickers (they were still in good shape). After the install, (oh man what a difference!!!) the door closed and sealed like new. No more rattle!
Thanks guys for all of your input. This helped me to fix my door problem.
plastic bushings over the stricker??????? By striker do you mean the part thats bolted to the cab? My F250 doesnt have that. Maybe I should check the passenger side cause it doesnt rattle.
The striker is the gold color (mine are gold) pin, about 3/4" in diameter, that sticks out in your door jam. It is the pin that the door latch mechanism locks onto when you close the door. There should be a plastic/rubber bushing on the pin to make the doors snug up and close better, if it isn't there then you should do that soon, especially to avoid damaging your latch mechanism.
