My wife says the Excursion needs to go in order to get something newer and more fuel efficeint. I am looking at either a Supercab or a Crewcab with 4wd. I am a little leary of the 4.6 only because I am used to my V10. The Excursion of course is a much heavier truck so it may not matter.
So, all that being said, what are you guys getting for fuel milage and what is your set up? (Crew, SC, 2wd, 4wd, etc)
IMO A truck without 4x4 is a waste of money. From what I have read, the difference between the 4.6 and 5.4 MPG-wise is marginal. If I had the choice of the perfect truck, I would probably go with the 5.4 f150 4x4 with towing package.
I have no idea what my fuel economy is due to oversize tires, but I'm probably in the 15-18 town driving. I drive highway rarely, so I don't know what I would get.
You could also check out the excape hybrid.
You could also tell your wife to stick to cooking. j/k

I have a 97 model 4x2.NOT A WASTE OF MONEY!! with the 5.4. It gets 16 city & 20 highway. It might get better now that I have my SCT installed. I'll check it on the next tank of gas.
Having to guesstimate, I'ld say that I'm getting between 13 and 14 mpg on average. That's with a 2002 F-150 screw 4X4 5.4L with 33" tires. Haven't felt like working the math on the mileage, but will do so over the next couple of tanks (about 10 days) and see what I come up with.
i get 19-20 on the highway with no wind now... thats after all my modifications.. if i go interstate i get 17-18... and if theres a head wind it goes down fast...
I have a 97 4.6 4x4 scab and get around 14-17 mixed and around 18-23 on the highway. The highest I have ever gotten on a tank of fuel is 19.5mpg. In the city I really don't want to think about it.
