351w question on heads

okay that other idea i had does not seem to be a good one, but how about this question, i have a 75 351w mildly built with a old mc culloch supercharger(paxton type) + i have a spare 90 efi 351w out of a 1 ton club wagon van , are the 90s 351w heads any better than the ones on the 75? do they flow any better? will they work on my 75 with the blower any better than the origanals? any ideas at all for a budget builder tryin to make more power

If ya post the head numbers it will make it easier than someone having to look them up to answer your question. Many on here may well be able ta tell ya off the top of there head. I'm not one. Sorry

The casting numbers are on the head gasket side(bottom) of the head, so you won't see them without at least removing the intake. If you have the D5TE on the 75, they will have 60cc combustion chambers with 1.84/1.54 valves. By comparison the E7TE heads on the '90 will have 64cc chambers and 1.78/1.45 valves. Overall there isn't much difference in the heads, forced induction levels the playing field somewhat and the port size and flow is the limiting factor for all factory heads.
What cam is in the motor? If it's a stock grind that will limit the motor more than anything else.

here is what the 75 has, edelbrock performer carb, mani, cam + lifters, billetproof elect dist, accel super coil, holley msd box, headers, Mc culluch super charger off of a desoto, nitrous 50-150 shot, gear to gear timing, high volume oil pump, the rest is stock, it was a recent rebuild when i got it, i had it running good but pulled it back out to work on car, the only problem i noticed was i had to run the vent tubes out thru the hat that i made. i was just looking to get a few extra ponies out of it with stuff that i have, but i think i just need to put edelbrock performer heads on it + have the total power package, but for now i will leave well enuogh alone, thanks for the info help!!

Wait, so 351W heads have 1.84/1.54 valves up into '75 even? And 60cc combustion chambers? in 1975? I figured they would have crap for heads. I figured valve size was smaller anyway.

In Pat Ganahl's book, "Ford Performance", he says that pre-77 351W heads have 1.84/1.54 valves. He also implies that they have 60cc chambers, but I think that only the 69-70 heads do, and the 71-up have a bigger volume.

only thing bigger on the 75 W heads is the intake port..1.78 1.45 valves the 69 70 had the bigger valves but I think they kept the larger intake port up to 77 I think.

The book I have "Rebuilding Small Block Fords" says the 351 had the slightly bigger valves with the small 60cc chamber until '76, then they jumped to the 69cc chambers and smaller valves in '77. I don't think the port size changed appreciably, though the air injuction hump is bigger some years.

just get some good aftermarket heads that will bolt right up............

I bought this motor all together but had problem.........so if I had to upgarde just for power I would go the aftermarket world....But I do like the old school method........

Hey.. anything is possible... i'm not gonna say all the print is accurate, I know it's not. But we also know that just because a port is bigger doesn't mean the head flows better, right!?!
I agree on the aftermarket heads though, considering the headaches involved with using the the M or C heads, even a set of GT40's are a simple bolt on that will produce more power.
