Head castings are the same, only difference is the mounting bolt holes on the 302 are 7/16", the 351w are 1/2", so to use the 302 heads on the 351w you would have to open the holes up. And since the castings and everything else is the same, there would be no advantage or power increase if you switched heads.

the reason i am looking to change heads, is the 351 heads have 10 broken bolts in them.7 exhaust manifold bolts. 3 intake manifold bolts. it would be cheaper/easier to swap heads.
the reason i ask is the 302 uses flat top pistons, where as the 351 has dished pistons. any idea what the compression ratio is between the 2 engines. i really think the 302 chamber looks larger. if that is true the heads will bolt on but my compression will be reduced. does anyone know the exact CC's of the heads. i could take them to a machine shop and get them cc'ed but that is $25 each.
thanks
Matt

Hi
if i wanted to do the opposite swap, put 351 heads on a 302 what would i need besides the different bolts. What would i with the different size cooling passages , will just blocking off some of L shaped passage effect the cooling, i have a 302 intake.

also will the stock 302 pushrods work???

Any help would be great?

ok ilooked at the heads again. they both have the same casting # E7TE. so thatmeans they have to have the same chamber. right? it must just be an optical illusion, thatone looks bigger. can i drill out the holes bigger, or isthat something a machine shop would have todo?

Only the early 351W heads with the 16? bolt intake had the L shaped coolant passage, the later ones didn't. An Edelbrock intake for 351W has the L shaped passage regardless of which heads you put it on, don't think it affects coolant flow too much.

Stock 302 pushrods probably won't work, you'd have to measure everything to see for sure though.

According to this site http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/engin...s/FORD-91T.rtf they have 60.6 cc chambers. I think you can drill the holes yourself, but check the diameters of the sleeve dowel holes to make sure, these holes should be quite precise as they positively locate the head.
