Actually Ive done a good bit of reading on the ELC. Most fleets are using one type or another. Much better than "green" or "orange." A good article:

According to my owners manual for my 01 it takes 32.75 quarts or just over 8 gallons of coolant.

Don't mix the oarange and the green (ethylene glycol/propylene glycol) as it make a mess and it will all gel up in time. If you switch over make sure you talk to someone and find out if it will play with the sensors or not also, I know that some sensors ore sensitive to one type over the other, either way, make sure the system is completly flushed with fresh water before putting the other in.

Don't forget the BW-16 additive either, this plays a major role in diesel engines to keep the electrolisis under control.

33 quarts (8 gallons, 1 quart) total capacity. When I changed my coolant I could not get that much out. Even with pulling the block plugs. So my question would be, how does the 50/50 stuff work when you can't get every last drop of water out? If you flush the system with water, and there still is a couple gallons hiding in there after you drain it, wouldn't that screw up your mixture?

remove the sensor and tube (pretty easy) and clean the tube with brake cleaner and a wire/pipe cleaner/weedeater line.

The short answer is yes, it will skew your mixture off being exaclty 50/50. Not sure where you live, but going a little lighter or heavier won't matter much in the grand scheme of things.

If you live in a *REALLY* cold area, you probably want a little more than 50/50 anyway. Those of us in more temperate regions can get away with less. Besides, you could just get a tester and see what it shows. I have the Gold stuff, so I don't check mine too often. I do know that I'll be switching to Rotella ELC when I have to do mine next time. I'm not sure if the ELC requires a diferent tester or not, but maybe someone else here can chime in...

I prefer to make my own 50/50 mix. Flush the system until its pure water, then drain the radiator, fill with 4 gallons of pure antifreeze, and then top off with water. The 50% of water is already in there and over a few days of driving it will all mix in together.

I think it was around 6 gallons, but the odd thing is, I have a few hundred miles on since the coolant flush, and I still have to top it off every once in awhile. I guess I didn't get my leak taken care of.
