Use of SCT tunes

I have an '05 CC, LB, 4x4, 6.0 King Ranch

I bought the SCT from Extreme Diesel. It came with the Tow, Street & Race tunes. It instructs that the Street tune can be used for light towing, and NO towing on the Race tune.

For the most part, I don't tow much, but sometimes I'll grab my trailer to pick up a car, or some lumber or junk...and I would like to keep it in race tune because it seems to get better fuel economy around town.

What constitutes "towing"?

If I have an empty truck, but decide to pull a 2500lb trailer for 100 miles, can I do so in the "Race" tune? In other words, if I load my truck up with big tires, Road Armor front/rear bumpers, and a heavy tool box in the bed totaling 1,000lbs or more at all times, couldn't that in effect be compared to light towing?

What specifically should I be looking at in determining which tune to run? When is it not safe to run the Race tune?

I wouldn't tow or haul anything with the Race tune.

Either way, keep an eye on boost and EGT when towing or monkeying around or you'll be replacing HG's or more in a hurry.

When in doubt load the lightest tune to be safe.

Do you have gauges to watch boost, EGT, trans temp, oil and water temps? For those weights and distances I would not take off the tune but I would monitor the EGTs and other temps closely.

Is there a code for the ScanGaugeII that will monitor EGT's?

There isn't an OEM sensor for the EGT. With Scangauge you'll need an external gauge and EGT probe.

I think many use Isspro or Glowshift.

I have DashBoss that allows adding external gauges like EGT, Degas, LPOP, Fuel Pressure and more.

Even with ARP head studs I'll run the risk of losing HG's?

LOL... having studs isn't a free pass to be stupid. Still have to watch EGT temps while towing under full boost, especially with Tunes.

Fuel pressure too, might as well get a gauge for that when you do the EGT

What is considered "full boost"?

What is a safe boost to cruise at?

Full boost for a stock truck is 26-28 and is plenty for 99.99% of all driving. Cruising boost is determined by who wrote the tune and driving conditions. I usually see about 5 psi.

The stock boost gauge is the most accurate stock gauge there is on the truck. Its pretty close to accurate.
