The individual who seems to think that their BMW is somehow superior to all other vehicles by virtue of the lame advertising slogan that the Bavarian Motor Works coined decades ago, hasn't driven:
- in more than 4" of snow
- on loose gravel
- off paved roadways
- on rutted/puddled roadways
- off-road in any condition requiring more than 5" of ground clearance
- in any conditions where 4WD is a necessity
It seems fairly obvious that this "buddy" has gotten under your skin by virtue of mouthing off about one particular capability of the vehicle he drives. Let it go. His little Beemer will win in any acceleration game... so what. Its obvious he hasn't grown up enough yet to figure out that "fast" does not equate to "capable" unless you are a criminal looking for a decent get-away ride. Maybe that's why so many criminals prefer them.... remind him of that. Remind him that if he is so certain of his so-called "ultimate driving machine", it can't get out of a 4" snow rut to pull away from the curb. (I know this for a fact. I spent ten minutes waiting for an 8-series to accomplish this menial task one evening about a year ago. I pulled him out with my Bronco and then took his parking space).
Let me remind everyone of a little TRUTH that folks continue to share a hearty laugh over despite the age of the story:
The major difference between BMW's and porcupines... With porcupines, the ****** are on the OUTSIDE.
And with that in mind... walk away from any and all arguments or disagreements with BMW owners... they are too arrogant for their own good and certainly aren't worth your time or trouble.

Grey is right, Don't waste your time or money just cause of this One guy. My Bronco could easy out run it in a straight line, or offroad. But I have over $6000 invested into the motor and trans. 358w/C6 combo. But I know better than to try to keep up with any car like that in twisties. Bronco's just werent designed to carve up roads like sports cars. Just like that BMW wasnt made to through trails and mud holes like a Bronco. Sure, You could spend alot of time and money into making a custom chassis, suspension, and drivetrain to make it handle, but thats alot of time and money for such trivial trash talk. Enjoy the Bronco for what it is and its capabilites. Dont worry about the BMW. Eventually he'll need a ride when he can't afford to fix it lol.
Wow from 07... Haha, I know for a fact that my 78 is no match for modern engines, or even most older ones. I'm fine with that. I think my bronco is WAY cooler than any BMW anything or any Chevy, that's all that matters. They might be faster off the line but at least I can afford my parts. It's the same story with Lexus and Mercedes...

This is possibly one of the greatest post I have ever seen...
Ha well since its open, why not keep going. I know when I had my old 1988 ranger, I had a few people trying to race me. one guy had an f350 with the diesel motor in it. at the time my ranger still had a ladder rack on it so I don't know what possessed him to want to race me but of course I lost. I also had a guy in a camaro try to race me, once again I lost but I think he had a v8... The ranger was just a v6 2.9 with a 5 speed in it, previously was used for farm stuff. In the Broncos case, I haven't had too many people trying to race...
Yeah kinda silly for a truck to race a car, ive only raced trucks, 05 yota trundra with a 5inch lift, (knew him) and a couple of chicks in a sierra lol. I bet Boss351Bronco88's bronco would give it good challenge.
It had well over 200k on the odo when I got it. Let's see, I think it was in that same pickup that i kinda sorta raced 2 chicks on one of our highways, top speed we hit was about 80 before we came up on traffic and had to slow down. My friend who was with me gets scared a lot when I drive, it might be because I drive a bit fast or take turns a little fast or purposely try to scare him, but he was jamming his invisible passenger brake that's for sure. I don't do as much stupid stuff in the Bronco I have now because I know it's a lot bigger and not as steady at high speeds as a little pickup.

Lol, With the power she makes...It better out run a old stock BMW lol. But Yea, Ive dont alot of racing with Not so sporty vehicles lol. Before the build up of the motor. I caught and passed from a stop, My buddies 01 Sierra Z71 5.3. I was doing well over 100 when we had to stop...Speedo was deep in the Odometer lol. Messed around with a couple 5.0s. After the rebuild, when it was running lol...embarrased this guy in a 80s K5 Blazer. Nice truck..but he drives like a jerk. I stayed with a 80's Monte Carlo that had a big old cowl hood and slicks...most likely a mild built 350. He wasnt to happy to see my old 4x4 Ford right behind him haha.
My most infamous ride was my old and extremely rusty 91 Aero shorty. Freebie van, 3.0 V6, 3.45s with a floor shift auto. Me and my buddy flat blacked it, glossed the bumpers and mirrors and steelies. Custom cold air intake, 2.5in exhaust with a flowmaster, exited infront of the rear tire. 9mm Ford racing wires, bumped timing. Had my big Autogage tach with shift light mounted in it. It was deceptively quick. I raced anybody who would go. I embarrassed alot of tuner cars, V6 ponycars, and alot of pickups. Couple people got really mad when I beat them, especially some guy in a 12v Cummins lol. I ended putting my "Kills" on the sides, like old fighter planes.
Holy hell talk about a Necro, I no longer have the bronco life got in the way but plans were for a dt360 diesel and tons..
And as far as people saying that an old beamer is/ slow, that car is a first gen M3 and is now around 250-300 crank hp in a 2800 lb car (iirc) damn thing is like go cart on steroids....

If you still had the ol bronc, I suspect you could put it in low range with hubs unlocked and give the bmw a run for the money in 1/8. At least make your buddy shut his mouth for a day.
Yeah, I've got plans (famous last words there) for another 4wd truck to do some damage with; I've also got a couple of engines that need built for my stangs that I could light him up with...
But on the flip side of that coin he's looking to get a Cady SRX (???) awd suv as his first venture into "off road" as a mild beach type cruzer, wouldn't be my first choice but he did his own research so to each there own...

I'd say let him get a caddy, the repair costs will drive him to sell it I bet . I'd rather have my beat up, rough running, ugly 78 than a caddy any day.

Building it fast?
It can be done. My '88 F-350 at 5400 lbs would smoke just about anything I pulled up to with my old setup. Upgraded (1973) 466, C6, 4.56 gears, and 33" tires. I could take off and spin my tires until about 33 MPH. Now I have 37s on it, and I'm getting the engine rebuilt. It's better on the highway with the larger tires and gear, but not quite as quick off the line. Should be a little quicker with the engine build being done now.

Yep, fast with a long travel setup. (around 4500 curb weight) Nice sounds like a good build you got going on...
