Question Exhaust fell off!!!

hi there! i got a 94 bronco with a 302, 6 inch lift 3 inch body lift and my cat cracked and fell right off along with about 6 feet more of the exhaust system!! now i'm running around town with nothing but down pipes and boy is it loud!!! i was wondering if a 78/79 bronco exhaust would work with my truck... i know i wont have the cats but i'm fine with that. any ideas/ suggestions?

Chances are not. They are totally different beasts.
Just take it down to your local muffler shop and give them a few bucks to build a new system however you want it.

Considering that 78/79 was a completely different body AND frame, its highly unlikely... besides if you have to replace exhaust system components why buy parts for anything but the year in question? You might as well try to put the front fender from a 78 on your 94. It could be done but why on earth would you want to?

And if we are talking about installing USED exhaust system components into any vehicle, I will just refrain from offering my opinion and offer an objective suggestion.... DON'T!

You can't find exhaust kits without the cat because Federal regulations require the truck to have one. (Even if the truck does not need to pass emission inspections in your region).

However, you can find "off-road" (non street-legal) variants of the Y-pipe that do not include the cat. The major problem with them is the fact that they typically don't have a location to mount the O2 sensor. Without the O2 sensor, the onboard computer will not be able to properly control engine operational parameters. So, you can't just arbitrarily remove the O2 sensor without creating all sorts of havoc. Will the truck run without the sensor? Yes, it will still run... very very rich and for a LOT fewer miles than it should/would with the sensor and computer functioning properly.

Just take it to a muffler shop and have them build you a new pipe. And leave out the cat. Put in whatever muffler you want.

What about purchasing a new cat? They can't be that expensive...

EDIT: Found em on Shucks website.

About $100 is what you're looking at. Then take it to a shop and have them weld it in?

Agreed, at this point you should take it to a exhaust shop. Have a new pipe and muffler put on.

A MORE major problem with a catless exhaust is that they stink to high heaven and vehicles without them are NOT cool.

Um actually a failed catalytic converter will cause worse exhaust odors than a systme without one all together. And trust me, the terrible things that the onboard computer will cause to happen when it tries to compensate for the missing O2 sensor information will cost far more than dealing with the smell.

My gassy exhaust smells are better than the rotting egg smell from bad cats.

Agreed. Old cars without cats have a smell, but they never stink like newer "cat-ed" vehicles can.
