I just got the Kenwood DDX7019 with the KNA G510 Navagation add-on. Whats nice about this unit is you don't need a DVD for the nav and you can update the maps using SD memory & its a garmin setup. It just plugs right in and you get the updates from kenwood. Map DVDs cost about $400.
Also this unit has a USB port which I can plug in memory and play MP3s from, or an ipod if i wanted to get the connector. I'm going to install a rear camera also & possibly the bluetooth stuff.. I almost went with the pioneer because its cheaper but then I came across this one for roughly the same price so I nabbed it.
Wow...that's about twice what you can buy the D3 for. I think I'd go with the Z series Pioneer before I did that. Just my opinion.

There's a reason why its more than the D3, its better. Put it this way, the nav system is made by garmin. They know how to make navs! Secondly, with the kenwood you will never have to buy a map DVD. One map dvd can cost $350-$450. My setup will always have a up-to-date navigation.
Also I paid about $400 more than what a D3 cost.
And then there is the USB port which will allow me to hook up a memory stick, harddrive, whatever. I'll be able to store countless mp3s and won't need to use or buy the ipod connector. The kenwood also allows custom background images amoung other things.
If I'm not mistaken the kenwood also does everything the Z series does, including live traffic updates via XM radio and also the ability to have Sirius.
How about the big one Temec, we can watch a DVD while the nav is running. Don't think they can do that with the D3. As far as I know our map updates aren't free though, they cost $75.
Don't get me wrong the D3 is a nice unit, it just doesn't offer up everything I wanted.

Oh, I forgot about that one ! Thats huge.
I was told the updates were free but then again this was a salesman at a car/audio store. By the way, I ran my rear camera wire today just how you explained it. Fairly easy and no problems. Thanks for the tips.
We have extensive experience with cameras as we mount them on the plow trucks and in the deicing spreaders. Our favorite are the multi-cam setups offered by RV Cams in Louisiana. (www.rvcams.com) They have a couple of multi-camera options.
I do suggest that any interior camera, and the one on the back have auto IR (day/night) capability. There are other options. This is heavy duty stuff, similar to what you find on RV's, heavy trash trucks, etc. One of my guys dragged one 2 miles down the street and it still works!
Thanks. That is just what I was looking for. A bit pricey but it looks to be real quality stuff.
