Adding a back up camera 2005 f 350

Just got a backup camera for my birthday.
Any comments on how good they are, thought it would help connecting up to my boat trailer.
The manual says remove 2 bolts and carefully open two tabs to access the taillight assembly.
Anyone know where are the tabs are.

Thanks Davie

There are two bolts, either hex head or torx depending on year. They attach at a 45 degree angle to the bed box. Remove these and then pop the light assembly out. (It also has a couple of spring clips)

When you mount the camera, make sure it is out of the way of the tailgate and the hitch.

Be sure to put dielectric grease or Fluid Film in the connections.

Can you post a pic of the TV screen in the cab? Does the manufacturer have a web site? Thanks.

Holy cow! A rear-view mirror/cam. Man, that's pretty cool. It seems like it might take a bit of getting used to though. Great mounting job on the cam in the rear bumper too!

Round Rock---What camera and monitor do you have and where did you get it? I am very interested in one. I would like to be able to put multiple cameras on. One on the bumper, one on the bumper of the trailer and one inside the trailer to watch the horses.

Thanks guys
Like the way you mounted your camera right behind the tow hitch.
This is the one that I have, mounts to the licence plate or you could put it wherever you want.
The screen mounts on the dash or can be mounted behind the visor out of the way.

Davie.

Now hopefully I can get that light assembly off.

The monitor is wireleless from the camera. (you still have to connect the monitor to a 12v source)

I have looked at different backup camera systems for awhile and decided to go with a new stereo head unit, the pioneer AVIC-D3. I love it because it has a backup camera input and an aux video input I'm going to use for a trailer camera, navigation, playes dvd's, iPOD controller, and is a very good sounding stereo. I just installed it and definitely recommend it !!!

I just got the Kenwood DDX7019 with the KNA G510 Navagation add-on. Whats nice about this unit is you don't need a DVD for the nav and you can update the maps using SD memory & its a garmin setup. It just plugs right in and you get the updates from kenwood. Map DVDs cost about $400.

Also this unit has a USB port which I can plug in memory and play MP3s from, or an ipod if i wanted to get the connector. I'm going to install a rear camera also & possibly the bluetooth stuff.. I almost went with the pioneer because its cheaper but then I came across this one for roughly the same price so I nabbed it.

The system you linked to might be ok if you're just looking for something for your truck, but I suggest you connect it temporarily to test it. I just bought one of these the other day to use on my tuck, and then move to the back of my travel trailer when towing. It didn't have a very good signal just going from the back bumper to the cab. It was kind of hit and miss, nice and clear on minute then staticy the next. I moved it to the back of the trailer just for kicks and giggles to see how it was, and it was terrible. Hardly any signal. I had a feeling that would be the case before I bought it, but that's why I kept the receipt. It's definitely going back since I'm looking for something to use for a rear view when I'm towing. Like I said though, it might work for your application.

BTW, if you're looking for power when in reverse at the back of the truck, the center pin on the 7 pin trailer harness would work for you.

Hope it works out for you.

Installed the camera and aggree with your review.

It is a bit hit and miss for reception probably would work better if it was hard wired between the camera and the monitor instead of wireless.
But it should work for what I want that is single handing connecting to my trailer.
By the way the lens taillight assembly is simple to remove.
I used a flat handled screwdriver that I had wraped in tape to protect the paint. Other side opposite where the hex screws are insert the screwdriver wiggle gently and the lens should pop out.

We have extensive experience with cameras as we mount them on the plow trucks and in the deicing spreaders. Our favorite are the multi-cam setups offered by RV Cams in Louisiana. (www.rvcams.com) They have a couple of multi-camera options.

I do suggest that any interior camera, and the one on the back have auto IR (day/night) capability. There are other options. This is heavy duty stuff, similar to what you find on RV's, heavy trash trucks, etc. One of my guys dragged one 2 miles down the street and it still works!
