Looking to trade in the 5.4, just too many issues. Looking at a 99 250 4x4 7.3PSD. The particular truck im looking at only has one issue, the only way i know to describe it is that it seems to "miss" at times, it jerks, the whole nine yards. Dealer said that it is because of the chip that is installed in it, i did notice as i messed around with the settings on the chip switch it did seem to make a difference. BS or truth folks? Any input and help would be greatly appreciated!!
Put it in the stock setting, or better yet, pull the chip and drive it. Shouldn't jerk. Pull the codes if any. What kinda dealer sells achipped truck? Not that it doesn't happen but just curious? If they are selling a chipped truck, what kind of chip is it?
BTW, a stock truck runs like my buyer's guide describes, smooth, not overly powerful, but no jerkiness. A chipped truck will get up and go. No jerkiness.
Edit: that missing jerkiness sounds like a bad injector. Well that was my 4000th post, what do ya know.

1999 models had three different periods of production, early 99, mid 99 and late 99. Ford was trying to get everything set correctly.
I would pass on a 1999 and look for an 00-03 7.3 def stay with the 7.3 they are the best!!!
99's aren't bad trucks just some are better than others from the factory, you need to to check the production date in the door jamb. I have only heard of early and late 99's nothing about one in the middle I have a late 99 and love it.
Yeah the early one's had different turbos and smaller injectors I heard that some even had the old 5 speed manual instead of the 6 speed but I don't know if that is fact. But a lot can still be done with them.
Late 99-03 7.3 is the best TRUCK ever built any manufacturer. Ever. Period. Sure they have their issues, but these are one of the very few vehicles that you buy and keep. The dealer is on crack, the tuner will not cause it to miss. Likely an injector. That is why the 7.3 is so popular. They truly are the transition between old school no emissions reliable, and new age-high tech. It has gone mostly under the radar so far, but the 1999-2003 7.3 is going up in value. Internally, the 7.3 is as reliable as the Cummins, if not more so, and the metal surrounding it is FAR more valuable. If you are buying this truck on a bare bones budget, keep looking. If you don't mind splurging a bit, then go for it.
